Gears of War 2 just a 9.0????

If Gears 2 is superior to the first then why did the first get a 9.6 and 2 get a 9.0? GameSpot dear god there was no real valid complaints in that review, every word pointed to a far superior game then the original then it gets a worse score. Go back to your original rating system. You can't score things with only half points. If Gears 2 is better than the first than it should be a 9.7 or .8 but you stick it at 9.0 because otherwise you can't justify a 10.0, your system is that flawed.

This site has got the best forum layout out there, but the worst reviews. Look back in time about 4 years and see what you lost then combine that with what you have going for you now and this mockery can all stop.

So true i hate the reviews on this site i always just look at ign for reviews the .5 thing is no good at all.

I am not liking Gamespot's scoring system every each passing day. I mean Last year COD 4 should at least have a 9.5, but got a 9.0. Now GoW 2 got 9.0 too. I know some of you might say this is an opinion and everyone has his own opinion, but still many good games are getting lower scores that they should._JPH_

Don't you think that it only got a 9 instead of a 9.5 because over the past several months there have been plenty of games that have raised the bar a little higher?, i mean GeoW was what i think the first really true next gen game , i mean, take a look at games like perfect dark zero and imagine what they would have gotten if they got released just a month after GeoW.

Good games create higher expectations, and the fact that it got a solid 9 means that its improved, it doesnt have to get a higher grade than the previous installment to do so, thanks to this bunch of 9s im starting to get my hopes back on gamespot as an unbiased site, i mean, they were in the LBP hype, they might aswell have given it a 9.5!, but they opted not to.

Atleast with the 9 you know that it got more than a few twicks here and there, and that its a true sequel instead of an expansion just to cash some money, so give it a break, if you don't like the review, go read the official xbox magazine which is more likely to give a solid 10 to those precious xbox 360 exclusives they've hyped all year.

If not, how can you logically complain about something like the score when you dont know how the game is?

Yes I have played the final version ( only the first level though, and please dont ask how ), and it deserves a 9.5. Although gameplay is almost the same, there are new stuff like weapons and grabbing the locust, stuff that are in the trailers.

Plus I have played the multiplayer at PAX.

Are you kidding me? I was just coming to the forums after i saw the review and knew there would be someone posting about this. Peoples idea of scores is way off. 9.0 is awesome. why is it that more and more when games get below a 9.0 they are barely looked at. A game that gets a 7.0 is barely played. when you think about it 7.0 should be great. if 5 out of 10 is average or mediocre it should still be fun. a game that gets a 7.0 should means its a good game. and a 9.0 out of 10 is fantastic. does a .5 really make that much of a difference. i think they need to get rid of the decimals and use whole numbers. then there wouldnt be this problem.

Well im glad that you liked it, but that doesn't mean you are totally right about the score, people need to accept things as they come, i mean if it had gotten a 9.5 there would be a thread like "why does this get a 9.5 and GTAIV gets a 10?".

Why would there be topics regarding Resistance 2? When LBP got a 9 i never saw a single topic about it.

It was an example not an statement, don't need to get so worked up about it, besides if they gave it a 9 and GS gave it a 9, that should say something, as i said before, every year , and sometimes every month the bar gets raised higher for what a top notch game should be. I mean, the 9 is clearly enough for me to buy the game, and then for what i see, i can draw my own conclusions and say "well this game is better than GS told me".

The point is, if you dig the game, you should care about things so trivial as some reviewers opinion, after all do as i do, get GS score and IGNs score and get the average (those are the only 2 sites i kind of trust for reviews).

Then all I can say is you shouldnt get hung up on a simple numerical score. Does it really hurt you if you like the game and you think its one of the best games this year even though it didnt get a 9.5 or 10?

Its like what everyone here has said before...Why does what some site gives the game, as far as a numerical score goes, matter?

i agree. 9.5 at the least. They took points off b/c the story left u w/ 2 many questions??? Thats not always a bad thing. And then something about vehicle controls but that, like ne other game, just takes some getting used to.Dawq902

and why is everyone *****ing about a 9? does it mean the game is bad? absolutely not, it means its SUPERB, and even so i dont think the game getting a 9 as oppose to a 9.5 will change what people think or whether they will purchase it. if it does, they need some independant thought

Why would there be topics regarding Resistance 2? When LBP got a 9 i never saw a single topic about it.

because its been done before. I remember when Gears 1 and Resistance 1 came out everyone was like "oh which one is better." I even saw comparisons in magazines. The fact that sequals for both games are being released just three days apart only makes me believe that those comparisons will inevitably return.

I know ones a FPS and the other a TPS but that wont stop people from posting comparisons and starting fights.

Gamespot reviews have long lost their credibility for me. If Gears 1 received a 9.6 and Gears 2 received 9.0, you'd assume that this second one isn't as good as the first one when in fact, the person that reviewed the game pointed out areas where Gears 2 improved upon.

It's not like this review was going to change my opinion on whether I will buys Gears 2 or not.

The reason gears got a higher score then gears 2 is simple! The first one was amazing and original and is like no other game! The second yes is improved but there is no "Original" factor in it nor is there a "not like any other game" factor in it! It is the first one just better! Still 9.0 is as great score!
