The co-op campaign in ODST wasn't designed for a second person to help. It was meant for a single player campaign. The firefight mode in ODST is fun up until a point, and then becomes redundant. Other than that, the multiplayer for ODST is just a disc to play Halo 3 matchmaking. I haven't played GoW2, so I can't give you any input there, but I would assume there is much more in the latter for multiplayer action than the former.
it's really difficult to determine if you haven't played their previous games. Some people like Halo more and some people like Gears. I personally like Halo ODST, but Gears is a great game as well... It just didn't keep me playing like some others did.
with a two games such as these i would say go with the one more friends have, i feel that regardless of how good a game is if you don't have anyone to play with it's no where near as fun.
Both games are great, but Im enjoying the living heck out of ODST so I'll pick this one over GeOW 2. GeOW 2 is a great game, but you have to get good if you want to play the Multiplayer (Which I found great, not a single Lag in there), or else, your going to get killed constantly in the game so Practice if your getting the game. Either way, there both great games and their one of my favorite Xbox 360 games so get both, but If I could only say one, then It's ODST.
Depends. Do you already have Halo 3? Did you enjoy the original Gears of War and in what way? I'll tell you right now that Gears of War 2 right now is probably the better deal. Theres a Game of the Year edition that comes all the DLC maps(thats twenty nine multiplayer maps in total). And it's just fourty dollars. Halo 3 ODST on the other hand is sixty dollars. It does however come with the Halo multiplayer along with all dlc maps coming at a total of twenty four maps. The ODST portion of the package however is a compain and the new fire fire fight. mode. While I think Gears is probably the better deal the enjoyment you will get from either game is debatable. I found Gears 2's competitive multiplayer frustrating. It play very much differently than you probably would think it would considering the emphasis on taking cover and it just play much differently from any shooter in general. It takes a lot of time a dedication to get good at it. Halo 3's multipayer however is relatively easy to understand and play. There alot more variety in game modes and quite a bit more in terms of customizability. It's less glitchy and host based as well. However, for most people I can't imagine the Halo 3 multiplayer playing a majot part in the decision of purchasing ODST. I mean, how many people haven't already got Halo 3 by now? I'm sure theres a few, but the bulk interested in ODST likely already played Halo 3. Fire fight vs horde. Well, Horde has the advantage of having 5-player co-op and a much larger set of maps. However, You could argie that the maps in ODST vary much more. Personally I feel that alot of maps feel very similar in Gears. Almost all of them are completely symetrical in design. The weapons are always similaraly set up in each map. Where as ODST's maps vary radically in design and set up(save for two nigh time maps). In ODST the waves of covenant are most randomly generated save for the first and last waves in a round. So it's less predictable. In terms of campaign, Gears 2 is pretty much the winner. It's much longer and alot of fun. ODST implemented some interesting new ideas to Halo such as the hub world and VISR mode, but none of it was very meaningfu. The hub was cool, but aside from running to the next mission or hunting down audio logs there wasn't a whole lot to do. Gears 2 may have been a bit more linear but it was ver polished and none of it really dragged(although you spend a little more time under ground than I'd have liked). Which one you should purchase is really hard to determine with out knowing what you do and don't like. Hopefully though I was of some help.
Offline Gears 2 is, in my opinion, much better then Halo.Halo's gameplay doesn't compare. However if you are choosing with just multiplayer in mind then I'd choose Halo as the online play is much smoother and has far less lag. Whereas Gears 2 can be guilty of lag and too much time waiting in lobbys to connect.
This is easy, get Gears of War 2. Halo 3: ODST is just an expansion that's not really worth $60 unless you really love Halo 3. Gears 2 on the other hand is a really great full length game (plus the GOTY edition just came out with all the DLC maps already on the disk).
Also, if you've never played Halo 3 before, then just get Halo 3--it's cheaper.
