I've had XBox since the beginning but I just never really got into Gears. I finally decided at GameStop to buy number 3. I plan to mainly play online so story isn't important. Did I make a good choice getting this game? It's got good reviews but I like hearing from real people.

It'll depend on who you ask. I work with a kid who almost exclusively plays Gears, loves it. For me though, I never got into the multi-player. The co-op is awesome, the horde mode stuff is sweet, but the regular multi-player was just never that appealing to me. I don't know why. I love the gameplay and mechanics so you'd think I'd enjoy it, but it always just felt boring and strange. And I do remember there was way too much diving-shotgunning going on in the first.

If you got it only for play multiplayer it's hard to say how much you'll like it. It got high reviews mainly due to the Single Player and Co-Op from what I've read. Why not just play the SP?

I have been playing Gears since the first one and I love the series, number three has the best online by far, partly due to the fact it has dedicated servers. One thing though, don't just play the online, it would be a huge waste not to play the campaign, Gears has a really good story. Play it in co op if you must, but definitely give it a go.

Gears Of War is good, no doubt, it is far from sucking. As for you liking it? That depends on what type of game play and stuff you like? Do you like Sci Fi and fiction games? Or prefer more realism such as COD, tho granted it's a game. Do you like Third Person Shooters? What about weapon choices? Can you handle using a shot gun? Most of GOW multiplayer revolves around the players using the shot guns, more so than the primary lancer, but it's good tho, because most gamers use the Lancer from a good distance trying to down their opponent, and slowly progress closer to one another if they can't take each other down.

Another thing, do you like team based strategy games? That's what GOW exactly is, which is working with you're peers in the game to help beating the other team.....

From my experiance, I love GOW, and the whole series, the story is driven well, especially in the 2nd game and the 3rd game, very emotional. Now for the Multiplayer? I love a challenge, and I feel Gears is where it's at, and takes more skill than "most shooterS". I was ranked number 1 usually monthly, and weekly in GOW 1, and beat the top 10 Ranked players to death, and also played with the top 15 ranked players on the game, but personally it's a good game, you should enjoy what oit has to offer =]

I rented Gears 3, it was weak.

I recommend Gears Triple Pack (Gears 1 + Gears 2 + Maps), it's pretty good value for 20 bucks.

3 just isn't worth it, maybe when it comes down to 10 bucks or something.
