Just curious, I started playing player today and it was just overall a better experience. Prior I had been an achievement-wh0re but now I dont even care and Gears was much better. Being able to play with my friends, leave if I really need to and join games already in progress. So much better!
I mostly play ranked because it is more rewarding knowing that I'm working towards a goal (getting an achievement) But sometimes I play player matches with friends.
I play Player matches cuz its always more fun to play with ure friends then with starngers. But if i Just feel liek palyign one day and no ones on, ill play ranked, im not that much into ahievements, inless there easy. Imnot gonna sit there and try to get 100 kills with a specific weapon.

Yeah I agree. I was aiming for the revive one on Gears..but I cant even get that (I have like 73) and I just dont feel like playing ranked. Keep in mind ive had the game since day 1. And Ive given up on Act 4 on INSANE!
If I'm picking I normally choose player match. If someone on my friends list is on and I'm joining them I play which ever type of match they're playing.

I prefer Player matches so much more because of the frequency of people leaving in the middle of a Ranked Match. It pisses me off so much -- I seriously believe that people who do that should receive -800 points every time they do so that permanently goes on your overall score. Player Matches make the game fun and enjoyable -- aside from the occasional immature buzzkiller who feels like they are obligated to trash-talk throughout the whole match. I can only tolerate so much trash-talking before getting a little pissed off. It doesn't add to the experience, and doesn't make the game fun for everyone anymore.
I've never really liked player/custom unranked matches when ranked matches were available for the same game. However, with Gears' crappy don't-play-with-friends ranked system, player matches become more attractive. Still play mostly ranked though (when I do play).
Rank Matchs for Sure =). The people who play rank matchs are much more " Pro ". They play much better n they mostly are kool n chill. Not Young Litte Kid which i pwn n they complain about all THE TIME. Also I like the way dat i get points n stuff so i get rewarded for my time spent for the games =]. So ya IDK player match isnt my time i Somehow cant stand playn player match so ya =\ RANK MATCH ALL THE WAY.
Used to do ranked for the achievements, but then I realized how stupid people can be on ranked matches...so now I usually just do player matches. I don't know why people quit. I can't remember the last time I played a ranked match and at least one person didn't quit....you LOSE points for quitting, you GAIN points for staying...it just blows my mind. It's not like losing effects your rank or anything...
We play ranked, if you guys really wanna play with friends it's not to hard... you can just msg them and tell them what game to search for or just use AIM if its more than one person to figure out what room to go to. We never have any problems getting everyone in the same game.
