He means that their are not going to be another generation number. In past consoles for the most part, new consoles could not play old consoles. Phil is saying that MS will stop doing that. Going forward he wants to all future Xbox consoles to work on future consoles. Weather or not he can do that remains to be seen. You can have a CPU with more power more GPU power and more RAM but he wants it about to work with the all Xbox One's. I don't see this happening not for 3rd party games. I think in the next few years the One X will become the standard and all other Xbox Ones will be fazed out.
Not sure how this would be possible. Maybe he's talking about all future xboxes will be able to play all previous (Xbox One and up) games. Basically like PC. I can't imagine developers being forced to have their game run on the OG Xbox One 5 years from now. It'd make sense for all companies to go that route.
Consoles have become just like computers. There is no longer a hardware argument to lock things down to a single console. Software development now provides ways to develop from the ground up for most platforms with little to no extra work.
Generations are effectively dead. Good news for gamers.
The statement is a little too consumer friendly. It could be they want to go for yearly-ish upgrades to their console. You won't need to upgrade, but you can. Maybe that will result in more revenue overall. Honestly it makes a lot of sense.
I'm enjoying looking at how this new Sega32xCDROMDrive development is turning out, seems like the new console generation came out at an awkward time. Now Nintendo's Switch is all the rage, look out for what Xbox/Sony will do in respons.
