with the launch of the new 120GB HDD, I think they should drastically lower the price of both HDDs.  you can get a 160 2.5" SATA notebook drive(which is exactly the same as the 360's HDD) for $100 off newegg.  c'mon, a 20GB HDD being $100?  that is just raping the consumer.  Drop it to $50 or below, and more people will buy them.

I don't think they'll ever get rid of the core.  Just for the purpose of consumer "choice"  Where as theres a majority of people that don't want to spend an extra $100 for a hard drive, wireless controller, and a headset.  But it's always possible.

I am not even sure why the core was released ever in the 1st place. It's not uncommon in the gaming world for systems to "upgrade" throughout their life span when better cd/dvd readers become more accessible but its kinda wacky to release two different versions of the same console. And now it is starting to catch up with them (with the GTA4 debackle). YES they should phase out the core system all together and focus on HDD only systems. Sorry for those of you that cant "afford" to get the $399 system but lets put it this way...if you cant afford it..you prob should be putting that $$ to paying bills or rent in the 1st place. (by the way i am not rich by ANY means but I dont use price to deter me from a system I want)

I think they shouldnt have released the core to begin with. Its already been said by Devs that because they cant garuntee that every console will have a HDD it sort of limits what they can do a certain extent.

But thats MS for ya..

I will say this in defense of the core system.  When my Xbox 360 died back in december It was out of warranty and I was too impatient to wait to send my system off so I went out and bought the core system and moved my hard drive to the new system. so there is a use for it however limited it may be.

Allot of people with broken X360's still purchase the Core. They should get rid of the Core system if they offered lifespan warranty for the hardware of the Premium and Elite (5-6 years). Because then no one would want a Core anyway.

I would get rid of the Core system if I was running MS but I wouldn't lower prices on the rest, not even the HDD.  I don't care if I'm called greedy for saying that either.  I don't think it makes good financial sense for them to lower the prices since they already take a loss on the hardware sales anyways.  The profits come from accessories and game sales.

Actually they should still keep the core b/c to many people that is the only viable option. As for lower of premium and elite prices, I doubt they'll lower them until their competitors lower their prices or they start seeing a drop in sales...
