I'm buying a 360 from my friend for $100 with all his games and 2 controllers, he had the RROD and he sent it to microsoft and now its repaired. He hasn't played it much at all since he got it fixed. What are my chances of getting the RROD and how much are repairs? Can i buy a warranty on this xbox now?

ur chances are pretty high...after getting rrod a 360 never really heals....rrod comes back after a year or 2....sometimes even a few months...if i were u id get a new 360 for 200 dollars....but u should still buy his games.

depends on the model( i don't mean arcade or elite or w/e) i mean chip set made in 08 most likely u got falcon which as 6% fail rate. 09% u got jasper the newest chip set. then 07 has like a 14% chance, 06 like 34% not exact number but you get the point... you be fine just play and chill... Microsoft warranty is not a one time deal. when ever the xbox was bought as a 3 year on 3 red lights and a 1 year warranty for any other issues. if it dose run out u can get refurbish xbox from Microsoft and a new warranty for $100... i think game stops gives $75 for broken xboxs good way go if people want to go ahead get a new xbox or w/e

so how do new xboxs get rrod? so dose it take a new xbox 3-4 years to get rrod? you think they open the rrod xbox and up and press a reset button? they change out the hardware that caused it... a refurbish xbox, few decent games, two controllers can't really go wrong with 100 bucks

As long as your friend hasn't open the xbox 360 the warranty is good for the RROD.

The newer Xboxs (I think after 2007) they got a new chipset called Jasper that is waay more resistant to over-heating meaning that the failure rate is like other consoles, and very reliable. The new ones don't get RROD often (about as often as Wii or PS3 fail which is normal)

I beg to differ. Some are okay. Just know what you're buying. Most likely you will be fine. Most people that get RROD leave their Xbox 360's on for days at a time or play for 6+ hours a day without a break. The xbox 360 probably still has a warranty on it if it was truly sent to Microsoft. I think you can check on the Microsoft Website if it is still in warranty.

Once a console gets the RROD most likely it will come back after around 6 months to a year, I think your better off getting a new 360

i think after you get the rrod repaired, microsoft included a whole new 3 year warranty from the repair date, so if it red rings, just tell him to send it in under his name

That's the thing, you dont know what you're actually buying. That's the price you pay with USED consoles. I've dealt my fair share with 2 PS3 systems, and one 360 console. When I thought I knew exactly what I was dealing with, BAM. It's like a used car. You do not know what on earth is going on inside unless you're a professional mechanic. Most of us do not know a thing about fixing Xbox 360s.
