I'm ready to burst I'm so happy to be getting a 360! I need two games that will get me hooked for a long while, and by that I mean counterstrike or socom hooked. Suggestions?
For other platforms I liked:
Battlefield 2 Counterstrike Source Halo 2 Unreal 2k4 Doom 3 FEAR Socom 3 (but CA for the new maps) Star Wars Battlefront
But as for the second game there are so many games i can't really pick out a second best game but just pick one of these they are all simply amazing games.

As a further suggestion though, get xbox live (50$) and these arcade games

Those are pretty much the best arcade games of the past year and are all great and combined they are definitley worth the price of a game. You can buy all those in a 5000 point-pack for 62$
These games are right up your ally GRAW 2 (49.99 at Circuit city for Temp) GRAW 1 (is going to be cheap in price now) Rainbow six vegas (great SP and sweet MP) COD 3 (fun shooter but may be too WW11 for you) Gears of War (Possibly one of the best games on the 360 besides from GRAW 2)
try maybe some oblivion to keep it mixed up. and if not, there is this game called two worlds coming out in a few months that will absolutely hook you. gears got old fast for me, get vegas, cod3, or graw 2 instead.
Unlike a lot of people, I'd recommend Gears as a rental. Unless you really love the multiplayer its really not worth paying 40-60 bucks for. The SP and coop are amazing, but short. Other than that, get Rainbow 6 for sure and, interestingly, I'd recommend Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Really amazing beat-em-up game that never gets old!
Either Call Of Duty 2 or 3, both were awsome but i think COD 2 had a better single player and one game that got me really hooked was Condemned Criminal Origins back when i first got my 360 but you can't go wrong with Gears online multiplayer.
