I never had XBL on my xbox1, and I will SOON be purchasing a 360 and so I need some help in understsanding how to set up xbox live. Ok well for my wii (which after Nintendo's Press Conference, I am selling to fund a 360 purchase) all I had to do was go to Wii Settings, tell it what type of connection I wanted (Wireless) and boom, it found my router connection and I was good to go.

Ok now I'm not very tech savvy so don't go nuts with some gizmo-filled response, but can someone just go through what I will need, and what I will need to get (aka buy)to fully enjoy XBL, because I am new to this.

Thanks!

If you intend to be wirless from you router than you will need a wireless router for you 360, i reccomend the first party one. But i you are cloe to your modem and you buy the premium then you can just plug your ethernet cable into your modem and be good to go.

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/connecttolive/xbox360/livesetup/join.htm

Read everything

PS: You lucky bastard I wish I could have a Xbox 360 but no they have to be $400 and I only have $240.

PSS: I only knew home to find that link because I research the 360 even though I don't have one.

Edit: Don't just read everything on that page but under every dropdown things too.

Simple question to start off: Is your router/moden close to your 360 (or soon to be one). If some you can just plug it in with the ethernet cable that comes with the Pro system.

You probably won't have a problem setting Live up... it can be all done with your xbox 360 without having to phone anyone... but if you want to cancel you Live account, you have to phone them which sucks since they rarely speak decent english... so just hope you are happy with it.

I wasn't using playing games online, so I cancelled the Gold account and got the free live account which you can still download demos, videos and stuff. All the full version arcade games, and other stuff requires you to pay money for whether you have a Gold or silver account which bugs me. they even charge you for download theme background packs...

Holly cripes I'm getting a lot of random stuff from you guys. Gold accounts? Silver accounts? Live accounts? What's the diff between the 3? And where do I make an account of any of the 3?

My 360 won't be close to my modem because the TV in my room is just a 27 inch standard ef TV. I wanna use the one in the living room 42 inch plasma screen. Anyway, what do I need to do to get connection to my 360.

Pro system, is that the 399.99 one? Also what's the diff between Gold, Silver and Live accounts?

When you get your Xbox 360, and are connected to an Internet connection, you will see the on screen option to join Xbox Live.
There are two types of memberships. There is Silver which is the free membership, and there is Gold which is a paid membership.

So, you'll click on Join Xbox Live, and you'll have to fill out some fields with the help of the on-screen keyboard. One of the fields will allow you to choose your Xbox Live GamerTag. This is how you will be known in the Xbox Live World. Please note, that no credit card is required to sign up for Xbox Live, unless you choose to extend your membership later on.

After you go through creating your GamerTag you will be logged into Xbox Live. You will notice that you are currently at Gold Status. This is a complimentary limited offer from Microsoft, so you can try out the full Xbox Live Gold experience. After the trial period is up, then you are back at Silver status. Silver status allows you to download game demos, purchase games, videos, etc. from the Xbox Live Marketplace. Gold allows you all those features, plus the ability to play online against other people around the world.

There is an Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter from Microsoft. It costs about $100. It's very easy to use.
It just snaps on the back of the console, plug in the USB cable right into the back of the console.
Power up the Xbox 360, and chances are that it will automaticly detect your current wireless network.

I hope this helps, and enjoy your Xbox 360! 8)

Gold: You paid for a live subscription (about 60$ per year) to enable online multiplayer with every possible Xbox 360 game except MMORPGs. Silver: First you get a gamertag. Then you get a Windows Live account (www.live.com). Silver is free, enables you to download stuff from XBL, but no multiplayer and some other things. Don't be hasty. You will understand 99% of the concepts by turning on your Xbox and playing around with it for 10 minutes. Connect over wired Ethernet: Just plug the damn thing into the Xbox 360 and router. Be SURE your router supports Xbox LIVE. See http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/connecttolive/xbox360/connectionmethods/intro.htm for detailed informations. Connect over WLAN: Buy extra Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter for alot of cash (around 90$). Make sure your WLAN is NOT on WPA2, though the manual may say its supported, its not. Even if it shows up on your Xbox, its always grayed out. The next thing you need if you're interessted in Xbox Live Arcade (small games, some great, some retro, some not worthy your time) you need a credit card or buy cards in your local score to boost up your Microsoft Points. Microsoft Points are there to hide the $-signs in their eyes, because you always have to buy them. Why they didnt just add the option to buy the stuff you want directly with your CC or add $ to your account is unclear to me. Most arcade games cost 800 Points as expansions for games you have like mappacks that arent free. Retro ones 400. Background-themes around 150, Picture-Packs to get you another Avatar-Picture around 100 to 0.
