A Hard-drive? I'm thinking of getting the arcade 360, which does not come with a hard-drive. I plan to play games and maybe do some online things, but would I really need a hard drive to do all of that?

I suggest getting the harddrive, but the arcade 360 is not that bad of a deal being that it actually comes with a 256mb memory card (unlike the core package). Honestly though, if you're going to use Xbox Live you'll want the harddrive for downloadable content (a lot of which is free) such as demos, arcade games, trailers, game content, etc.

In my opinion, you ought to invest in a hard drive. Ripa ^ listed some of the reasons why up there.

If your looking to save money, you can buy an arcade 360, and buy a used HDD. As far as i know buying used HDDs are safe, because u can format them and then they will be just like new.

Without a hard driveload times are dramatically increased, games which require frequent loading such as Oblivion are ruined through jerky frame rates and there is a noticeable performance drop. If you think about some of theamazing looking games coming out soon the hard drive will be essential- Mass Effect i imagine will sufferbadly and God only knows how some thing like Lost Odyssey or Alan Wake would play withouta HDD! Save yourself some future cash andget the Premium or Elite system!

BTW: The Arcade pack is only there to combat the Wii's price point over Christmas and will probably be replaced againby summertime with another better value bundle.

It is completely worth it and there is no reason that you shouldn't.
