You need to work out what you want to do within the industry first really and then you can work out where to start.

Do you want to write for a magazine, code games or work in your local game store. All are within the "gaming industry" but all require totally different skills

2 of my former employees are going to school for game design. I can't be specific as to the area. 1 already had a degree in web design and is at Full Sail. The other is at school in Denver. Both are about to graduate.I have always heard good things about Full Sail, its just that it is really expensive.

I am currently in the first year of Game Development at University of Ontario in Canada. However, the first semister does not really have any relevance in regards with Game Development and therefore, you must do research.

It helps if you have a skill the industry requires.

What I've heard from people in the industry, it's always easier to get inside after working as a tester.
That way you'll get to work with the people creating it and as in all industries people tend to notice people that are really willing to work.
