Thats exactly how I feel, I take care of it really well and it just breaks, and I'm not gonna go out and buy a bunch of games only to have my xbox fail and then have to beat them all over again.Kaos39
why you have to beat them again? , you dont have to send your harddrive , only send your console ... i think
Have you run a diagnostic on your 360 of your connection? What does it say? Is your NAT open? How is your internet connection outside of LIVE? Can you download quickly to your PC? Who is your ISP? Do you have DSL, Cable, T1, etc.? Run a speed test on your PC to see exactly how fast your internet connection is.
As for your Gears disc, I've never had that happen nor have I heard of it happening with multiple discs of the same game. Usually, if a disc is bad, a replacement solves the problem. If it keeps happening with multiple discs then I'd assume it was the drive itself, however you said you just replaced your 360. You'd have to be incredibly unlucky to get a new 360 with the exact same drive problem.
Regarding 360s breaking down, MS made a mistake and admitted to it. The retroactive reimbursement and 3 year warranty is pretty unheard of. So while it would have been best for the mistake never to have happened, MS is handling it very well IMO. Since the new hardware revision is hitting stores now and addresses the 360 hardware problem, your FREE replacement will be an improved unit. IMO, as long as MS pays for it and fixes the problem, then I'm fine. The day I pay extra, though, for their mistake.....we'll I may reconsider. Remember, though, this is nothing new. The PS2 defects were atrocious as well and it took a lawsuit to get Sony to do anything. Even then, MS has handled it much better. Point is, stuff happens and it's how the company deals with it that influences me on whether I'll stick with them or not. Plus, right now and for the foreseeable future, the 360 game line up dwarfs the competition.
i have mine for almost 2 years and never, but never had a problem

Funny every Xbox owner I know has had to have their's replaced. It's stupid for both parties. MS should have tested this thing under many conditions, one thing the ps3 has going for it is quality I guess. I haven't heard any problems from it.

Thats because no one is playing em due to lack of games :p They will NEVER break. Im joking guys don't get upset now, im sure PS3 owners will have something to play eventually and will be able to break their consoles... ok ok i tease, bad me. Seriously im getting a PS3 eventually, it wont be like this forever, it will pick up in 08.

I've had my 360 since launch and still never had a problem with it.
If you have ever flashed your DVD drive firmware at anystage this may be the reason for gears not working as a partilcular firmware released last year preveneted legit copies of gears of war playing because for some reason the gears of war disc has its security encrytion on the disc in a reverse order or something which the firmware could not work with. I have encountered the exact issue you have been experiencing and that was the reason for it.
If you have not flashed your drive it may have been done if you bought the console pre-owned, but then just as a warning that firmware can be detected by MS and your console can be banned. Modding 360 consoles at this stage is lame, dont even cosider it because it will cause you nothing but trouble, just stick with the original xbox's if you want to mod.
If neither of these are the case then just test your GoW disc in another xbox and you will know if its your box or not.. Also, as for your connection work with your ISP's techincal team and they should be able to help you troubleshoot and get it sorted, Xbox Support are hopeless and chances are the problem will lie with your connection not your 360.
ive never heard of anyone saying if your console breaks. only when. its all about time. the reason they did this unheard of retroactive warranty is because if they didnt there would have been a class action suit for neglency and they would have had to do a recall.
Ive had mine for a year and a half and the only problems are that it overheated once and when i pick it up i hear somthing rolling arround in it lol.
