Ok, I got my guitar hero package before work yesterday... I anticipated getting home playing it ALL DAY. But as I thought about it, that probably isn't a good idea..

I've been reading about some of you saying your hand hurts after a long session. I've played acoustic guitar(blues, jazz, swing, and real technical playing)for 8 years and thought I should pass on advice I learned. First off, all those buttons you are pushing help the "muscle memory" in your fingers workout. If you are playing on hard level and getting so into that game that you feel a sharp pain after jamming, then PLEASE take a break. I can't stress this enough. I've known REAL guitar players who got tendenitis cause they don't know when to stop practising, and these were REALLY GOOD players. The controller teaches you finger patterns like a real guitar. You learn to move down the buttosn and then back up, play in the middle, play in the outside, but not up and down.

I started on easy and got 4-5 stars on every song and beat easy mode in three hours. I didn't realize 'til right after that my hand was cramping. When you play the pain is gone cause it warms the muscles up, but once you relax that pain comes back. So theres two way to stop this: Either you take a break everyone hour or hour and a half, or you play with a friend and trade turns to let your muscles relax. I can't stress that enough. I wrote this because I think the guitar hero genre could live on for a long time... STRUM ON, BROTHAS AND SISTAS!!! Wah-wah-waaaow-WHAMMY!!! wah-wah-wah!

Cool, thanks for the tip. I plan on picking up GHII as well as a bass guitar in the near future, and I was kinda worried about my fingers cramping.

I play fingerstyle and don't get cramps that bad only slightly and it goes away soon (I play classic rock) I don't play guitar hero though i've always been woried that it wouldn'tt be any fun for a real guitar player. Is it fun for a real guitar player or just a novelty type of thing?

I've played guitar for five years now and I still love to play Guitar Hero. Me and my friends use more as a party game than anything though. We get together and play it for hours just to see whos better.

Mmm well yh that's inderstandable,if you do anything too much it's not going to be good for you.

For example if i'm on my pc for say 5+ hrs then my hands can start to hurt, but it only happens if i'm playing audition online (ddr on the keyboard) for say 3 hrs straight.

I'm getting the game tomorrow and i'll be playing it all day but i'm hoping my hands don't cack out after say 2 hrs play lol

Theres a REAL MAN... Yea, my work involves me typing ALL DAY. So I guess my hands hurt, but its not even my hands. It's my wrist. They get tight and it feels like someone twisting my nerves with a knife. Not a good feeling. I'm sure typing all day doesn't help and typing this in between my job isn't helping, but I get bored lol... So when I go home to play i get that arthiristis feeling liek my wrist is locking up but it goes away after awhile.

Dude, I've been playing Guitar for quite some time now, and I'll tell you this, Guitar Hero dosen't teach you **** about guitar. On my guitar, I have 21 frets, and obviously 6 strings. Guitar Hero's controller has 5 buttons. You obviously never held a real guitar in your life.

NO GUNNER! I picked up GH 2 and practiced for a little while, started to play on expert and once I was comfortable, I went and bought a real guitar. 3 hours later, and a couple broken strings, I can play eruption without stopping. They're almost the exact same thing !!!!!

Yes, weak... unlike your jerk-off hand

I agree with JRM.

An a true guitar player would get his ass out of his computer chair and go play guitar, rather than argue on the interenet.

There's no way your an adult or you're barly old enough to work. You're attitude spells 15 year old to me. And the knife in your wrist is carpal tunnel syndrom. IF you get it from a few hours on the guitare you're either extreamly week or a little kid who can't stand pain. I was going to stand by you. sicne all you did was give advice. But you're an ass.

You don't break guitar strings that easily when you're a beginner unless you're just pulling the strings. How do 5 buttons horizontally positioned compare with 6 strings positioned vertically, over 21 frets. If you've noticed, the neck of a guitar is 2 times as long as its plastic counterpart from Guitar Hero. This is just so funny, it deserves to go into my sig.

I've played guitar for about 13 years now and I never had a problem with bad cramps, however my girlfriend got some hand cramps cause she got addicted one day while I was at work and played all day until i got home haha. Im guessing that even if I played for like 7 hours straight my tendons would be pissed at me too though.  A cold beer bottle on the back of the hand always helped me sooth my hands when i played real guitar for 3+ hours a night at bars haha.

I play hockey and I think it is more strenuous on the wrists than a guitar on the fingers, and I practise for hours on end shooting pucks and taking hard wrist shots. So I think I can handle it, and I am sure this isn't a common problem.
