hey everyone,

i've never owned any guitar hero game and have never played rock band. i definitely wanna pick one up soon though. i'd buy the game pretty much for my own use; i wouldn't have friends come over or use rock band as a party game. with that said, do you think GH3 or Rock Band is better suited for me and why? thanks

i would save your money and buy a real game. rather than one where you just hit a bunch of buttons as they come up on screen.

definately get one of those. they are both very fun. i prefer rock band by far mainly because its such a fun multiplayer game and you can play 3 different insruments as opposed to one. however if your only gunna play by yourself you should probably go with gh3. its much more of a single player game, that being said youll miss out on playing drum solo but youll also save 100 or so bucks.

That's actually not a bad idea... If you get the bundle, you get the guitar and the game. GH2 is easier than GH3 (which at times feels like it is punching you in the face with its difficult). RB is as easy as GH2, but it is not bundled with just a guitar... GH2 offers a game with a good learning curve, and bundled at the right price. If you really want, go for 3, but be warned that jumping from medium to hard is supposedly EXTREMELY difficult for new players.

I haven't played rock band, but from what I understand is that it's quite expensive- $200 or so for the whole package, I think? I own GH2 and GH3- they are quite fun and are significantly cheaper. I think Rock Band is meant to be more of a party game, thus the experience probably wouldn't be optimal for single player. So probably GH2 or GH3 is a better choice if you're considering cost and what you'll get for single player.

If you are new to the series, GH2 may be a better choice, as GH3 is an overall very challenging game and may be a bit too hard for newcomers to the series. The music is overall very good for both of the games and contains a good variety of songs. GH2 is probably your best bet for starting off, then maybe delve into GH3 after getting enough experience from GH2.

xmitchconnorx

Pretty much you do that in every game...and funny you say that with a PaRappa avatar.

Also TC I'd say get Rock Band, because even if you don't have friends over often you still have at least 3 'solo tours' you can do in it and you can do Band World Tour once you get used to the songs if you really wanted to

parappa had a sick story, and funny lyrics. and parappa didn't cost $90-$180. if it did i probably never would have bought it. i've played and beat all the guitar heros and RB i just can't justify spending all that money on a depthless game.

also, sick banana grabber av.

For a solo player, lets just concentrate on the GH games. I highly recommend you get the GH3 bundled with the Les Paul wireless guitar. Not only the guitar is better, it's wireless. (yes, it needs batteries. 2xAA to be exact) If you're worried about some of those threads regarding a faulty guitar, it's really a small of you getting one too. I never had any problems with my Les Paul. As for GH2, I recommend you to buy it afterwards and if you have completed GH3. Why? Because it'll be cheaper by then and +72 more songs would be a nice add on. BTW GH3 has better graphics, original artist vocals compared to GH2.

ROCKBAND. 3 instruments > 1 instrument. Doesn't matter if you plan on playing with friends or alone. The drums are a blast to play. And if you feel like playing the guitar, you can. Plus singing is more fun that I imagined, whether you're a good singer or not.

Thats like every other game, just your hitting buttons on your controller, and guitar hero can be very hard, so can every other game. And, If millions of copies sold worldwide doesn't mean its a real game then I don't know what is.

I see Rock Band has more votes, BUT you said that you would not have people come over and play with you. In that case Guitar Hero 3 would be more fun. Read or watch the reviews and they pretty much all say that the fun in Rock Band is in the multiplayer with friends. Xbox Live is kinda pointless on Rock Band. So all things considered I would get Guitar Hero 3, but you dont have to listen to us just read or watch the numerous reviews of each.

As a point of reference GH3 was my first GH game and it took me about a week to really get used to the move from medium to hard.

in other games you actually do things. sure you just hit buttons but there's more stuff going on on the screen. and sales don't impress me, it's a game that appeals to alot of casual/non-gamers so of course it's going to sell a ton of copies.
