Given the lackluster RB2 Drumset, the cheap RB2 guitar and the fact that RB2 won't be out in my country before April, I definitely go with the GH4 Hardware. Both the Drums and Guitar seem to be a lot higher quality, something already evidenced by the GH3 vs. the RB1 Guitar. And yes, you can use GH4 instruments with RB2 and vice versa.

im very glad they did that, showed some sense and humility
Well, I assume they only did that for business reasons: We are talking about a 200 $ Video Game here, and people are not going to buy 3 sets of incompatible instruments, especially not in the current market situation. Hence I believe that the only reasons all the instruments are compatible with all games is purely because otherwise they are not going to sell their games. GH4 is even going to tune down the drum parts if you have the Rock Band drum set, because it only has 4 Drumpads (instead of 5 on the GH4 one), but i really think it's only to not prevent people from buying the game if they already have a Rock Band set. Still, that's really great news, as all instruments are compatible to all games.
