The 360 is without a doubt the best console software wise this gen, but almost all this is ruined by rediculously shoddy hardware.

I bought a 360 August last year, it RROD during the store warrenty so i returned it and got an elite and was relieved to find out it was a falcon model with the 175w power supply.

So i was enjoying the great array of titles that were coming out on the 360 when i noticed the benq drive within my elite was making grinding noises on startup and even occasionly during games, a quick google of the problem showed i was not alone and that most benq drives make this noise. So i got a disk drive that sounds like a cement mixer a bit unlucky i suppose but at least it wasn't faulty, right?

But it wasn't until an extended playthrough of COD 4 online that I began to get worried. My 360 was gurgling and grinding so loud i could barely hear the game, so I took out the disk and noticed scratches all over it, inspecting all my other games i notice they are the same. I ring up microsoft and have my xbox shipped away for repairs.

2 weeks later it comes back and i continue playing my scratched but still usable games on the repaired console but to my dismay again, it still makes the same grinding noises. I ring up microsoft again about sending them my 360 again, tell them my situation and ask if there's is anyway i could recieve a new or refurbished console instead of my own one back because the same problems persists, the girl on the phone says that shouldn't be a problem and i send it back to them again.

A month passes by (during which MGS4 comes out so I wasn't complaining too much) and i get my xbox back, i check the lot number and find that it is once again my original elite and after putting in a brand new copy of lost oddysey find more scratches on it after playing for an hour.

So to sum up my rant: i send my 360 in twice and the problem still persists and i much prefer my 360 to my ps3.

WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW?

Unfortunately Microsoft's shoddy hardware has really hampered most progress they would have made this gen. The RROD, and many other hardware related issues, will be talked about as one of the many gaming plunders. I say this as I am on my third Xbox 360, and I don't plan on going through another.

With the Xbox 360 though, I love the games it has to offer, Xbox Live, and many other features that make up a good gaming experience for me. Thats what we pay for when they try to rush out a console just to be first.

nice one complain to them not us, we cant do anything to help u apart from say contact microsoft. cudnt u just take it to ur shop, most places in uk if its in first yr will swap at the shop rather than send back to ms, thats after 1yr crack for most shops in uk id also ask them to replace the scratched discs if it was me and they acknowledged fault, u just had some bad luck i think

I don't know what to tell you but when I sent my Xbox away for repairs after a RROD I had a good experience with Microsoft. I sent the Xbox away and got it back in reasonable time, unfortuantely my warranty had ran out so I had to pay for the repairs (about £80) however a few months after having my repaired Xbox I recieved a cheque from Microsoft which was a refund for the repairs! My Xbox hasn't gone kaput since and I am quite satisfied with Microsofts service.

honestly ive always had a good experience with MS customer service, however it doesnt really make up for the repeated offenses of crappy hardware. i really would like to just enjoy the library instead of always having some new problem to worry about.

the bad part about lost Odyssey though is that it could have already had scratches before you even played it since microsoft was stupid enough to stack three of the disc and put one in a paper slip. Either way Microsoft looks bad....

I hear all these horror stories but I have yet to have a problem with mine...sure it makes loud noises sometimes but I just turn it off for a while and let it rest...I've only had mine for a year tho so idk the timetable that most problems happen on.

Well I just sent my xbox back for the disc unreadable messages that I was getting, that was late thursday. So that means it really left new orleans on friday the 11th. Here it is, I looked at the tracking number for the repair......and It was on its way yesterday...if the weekend wouldnt be so close I would have it in three days. I'll be getting it on Monday....the 21st. count em....10 days. 8 if you only count the work week. This is my 3rd box, and I cant get enuff. I have NO reason to purchase a PS3....I have a PS2 and PSP...I play them when I dont have my 360.
