I wish new video games would come out with an option for people who still have standard definition tvs, what do they want from me im already spending a fortune on the games themselves there is no way i can afford a high def tv. I just want to be able to read the text again rather than getting inches away from my tv and still being unable to read whats going on

Apart from the fact that HDTVs are really affordable these days (especially for people who are willing to pay hundreds of dollars for videogames), you could also just buy a simple cable and play the games on your computer monitor if you have one. At least one of the two options should be available to the majority of gamers.

i dont know what kind of parallel universe u are from but where im from High def tvs are far from affordable and my computer monitor may be high def but is still significantly smaller than my tv and thus would not help my problem, Im just saying that with all the work put into the games would it be so hard to add a feature with bigger writing

I definition TVs arn't expensive at all. It's time to leave the past and move on. Quit buying so many games and get a new tv. High definition is almost the new standard.

I'm from Europe. HDTVs are cheap here. It's more diffictult to find a standard TV these days. Pretty much all of the electronics shops only sell HD LCDs and Plasmas.

As I said, if you can afford a Xbox 360 and games then you should really be able to buy a new TV as well. I think the only other option would be to cope with the situation until you can afford a new TV. Game developers, that I can promise you, will at this point not even consider implementing backwards compatability for a product which is on the brink of extinction. I mean look at it, Sony is starting to get into 3D gaming and Microsoft is readying Natal. Do you really think these companies are willing to waste resources for SDTV support?

I'm afraid you will just have to change, no amount of arguing is going to change the fact that Xbox360 and PS3 gaming has become about HD, this is how it's trending and you can either go along with it or stick with your older style TV and squint.

The Wii is always there for those who don't want to squint on a standard def tv though.

The only thing I am telling you is that what you want is not going to happen. I know some people can't afford TVs, and that's nothing to be ashamed of. Gaming companies obviously focus their attention on the people who are able and willing to spend money on things, though, and I think that's understandable as well.

how bout you dont buy some new releases and save up and buy a TV...very easily solved problem and your making out like the game companys have a vendetta against you. and if your battling to pay your car and rent, then honestly, how do you even afford gaming?

Well It's same as saying the ps3 and xbox360 cost money. It's never fair and not every one have money to buy the consoles but life goes on. I got my first computer when I was 20 so you should be happy to get what you get.

Well lucky for you HDTVs have dropped very dramatically in price. 3 years ago I bought a 27" LG LCD tv and it was roughly 750$ (only 720p too) now that same tv is somewhere around 350-400$ theres cheaper options the smaller the size your willing to go as well.

A quick lesson in life. If you can't put up some sort of cash every week into savings you need to re-evaluate your situation. What happens when your car breaks down? Or if you owned a home when the furnace or something goes out.

On the cable that hooks to TV their is a switch for High Def or Standard Def, if that isn't good enough then buy a Wii, Xbox, or PS2. Either way just quit your crying.

This

HD is the evolution of SD...and newer TV's are affordable, unless you don't have a job. And plus, games are playable in SD...it's just HD takes priority and if you played any games in HD this generation you'd understand why.

I've seen 19' HDTVs over at Walmart for $180. Personally I game on a budget and that means don't buy the game until the price is below $30, that is my policy, I bought Gears of War for $10, along w Assassin's Creed,Bioshock,Mass Effect, for around $50. The money saved from buying these late alone is enough to buy an HDTV. To tell you the truth Dead Rising is really bad on an SDTV and awesome on HDTV, but aside from that I haven't run into games that don't still look good. HDMI cables are extremely cheap on amazon too, you just have to look around and everything is easy.

Stop whining and either make do with what you have or buy a damn HD TV already! Some cost less than 200 euros where I live. If you really wanted one you could have even gotten yourself a used one for half that money. And I'm talking about 19-22 inch screens here, they're fine for playing games.

Dont expect to be catered toif you're behind the times.

You either get with it, or get left behind.

If money is an issue, then you're probably making lots of compromises in your life to deal with it. Not being able to read the text in video games probably isn't one of the worst. :P

I see what you're saying, but i wouldn't call that dirt cheap. I mean in my situation, Im a senior in college and I live away from home. My rent every month is $550, and then there is gas and food. I have a job at the local MicroCenter, but it basically takes all of my small income and my grants/scholorships to pay for my expenses for the year. In short, $350 isn't 'dirt cheap' for some people.

With that in mind, like someone else mentioned, if you have a half way decent monitor, just get the xbox vga cable. It may not be a 50' HDTV, but its still pretty nice. It will let you read all the text, and technically, the resolution is just as good as the tvs, just on a little smaller screen. For 30ish dollars that it cost me, I am very pleased with this alternative.

An interesting philosophy. This is what I get out of it: "I shouldn't have to buy something to makes something else work the way it was intended." Is it unfair when your sports car requires high octane fuel to run? Does it annoy you that you have to have a monitor to use a computer? Does the thought that in order to get the most out of a Blu-Ray player, you actually have to buy Blu-Ray discs make you cringe?

As others have stated, the 360 is a high-definition game console. That is how it intends for its games to be displayed, at a minimum of 720p. It supports lower res, but that is just legacy support.

This is kind of like buying a small shirt when you know you wear a large and being angry when it doesn't fit.

LoL, yeah man, I knew what you meant, and you are most definately right. I remember my dad bought a 37" like 2 years ago and it was around $800. You can get the same one now for about $400.

They are going to keep getting cheaper. Especially now that companies are starting to push the LED technology. I bet there are going to be some really good deals on LCDs next christmas season.

Im not sure if anyone has mentioned this idea or not, so if so sorry. I didnt feel like reading the whole thread with the same ideas over and over. Hopefully this is new...

Anyway Im heading off to college soon and I will be needing a tv. I will def not take a huge old one(Standard def) So Ill def get a LCD. Buttttt Im going to get an HD Computer Monitor. I never watch regular tv. Just movies and video games. So Im going to purchase a computer monitor screen. Best Buy has great deals. There are like 23inch LG's for like 200 bucks! Great deal! You will also have to purchase HDMI cables for your box. Go on eBay and pick up an off brand one, they are all the same...

Hope that helps!

Developers/Companies seem to think we can all afford all that is needed to have an current entertainment set up. I lookat the cost of the 3d tvs, plus the glasses, plus the games/dvds/etc that you buy for them and it becomes stupid.

HD TVs have gone down in price but still, if you are a normal person - like alot of us, its still a small fortune that you would have to pay to get the best out of things like xbox 360 and blu ray machines.

The alternative is to play old games on the original xbox and see the nice big text as you remember it.

...or wait until 3d tvs are the most popular and you might be able to get an HDtv for alot less.

By then something else will come out that needs you to get "this and that" to take advantage of what "this or that" is.!!!!!!!!!!
