That sucks.I don't evergo by their website anymore sincealmost the same thing happened to me. I only live 2 mintes from a gamestop so it wasn't a huge deal when they didn't have a copy. I didn't realize the darkness was going to be such a hot property though. I wasn't going to buy it, but i'm rethinking that after all the great reviews have been coming out.
Is Gamestop you guys only option?
I recomend Best Buy. I have had nothing but good experiences at Best Buy with games. If you go Release day, they are usually never out of stock.
The place to avoid is Circuit City, they have the worst Game department in the Business. Only when CC sells a game for $10 cheaper should you ever shop there.
Actually they're finally gonna open the first Best Buy AND Circuit City here so I'm pretty happy with that since I can now go to other places for my gaming needs and not have to depend on stuipid EB or Gamestop. Is Gamestop you guys only option?

Funny you should mention that because I left the mall and drove across to Best Buy just in time to see them close the metal gate for closing, I thought they were open until 10 every day but it is just Friday and Saturday. Went upstairs to Target but they had no copies to be found, probaly in a box in the back room and have yet to be put out for sale.

Target is also really really bad for Games, except when they put things on clearance.

[QUOTE="JDUB_x"][QUOTE="rwoot"]Well at 9:20 that was pretty much my last hope, needless to say I am not playing The Darkness tonight. :)rwoot
No Walmarts?
Walmart is way out of my area, Seattle is devoid of Walmart until you hit the less savory suburbs.Yeah, especially at that time of night
Maybe you should reserve a game you want next time? You reserve, you are guaranteed a copy. If you don't plan to get it anymore, cancel the preorder.

That does not change the fact that Gamestop screws people over by only ordering enough copies to cover preorders. If a game has a lot of preorders there is a good chance that a lot people will want to buy it. Gamestop does this on purpose to get people scared that they need to pre order games to get them, and that is just plain wrong.

Most GameStop/EBs are hole-in-the-walls. They won't get huge quantities unless it was to cover preorders.
I didn't read your wall of text, but, be like me and just don't go to those stores. I don't buy EB/GameStop and I don't buy EA, because I have standards. There are alternatives, I wish the gaming community would wake up and realize it.Sokkratez
I wish the gaming community would develop an attention span that could allow them to read a "wall" of text without making retarded comments. Obviously you don't have much to do if you are trolling a game forum so please spare me the details of the alternatives if you can't take 30 seconds to read the post.

If you read the rest of the thread, he clearly states that Gamestop is one of his only options.
No man, like I said the kid behind the counter told me they had a bunch of copies but they were all spoken for by people who reserved them. The problem stems from their inventory not reflecting the reserved copies as having been sold and still available.rwootProbably because reserved copies are not sold copies until the customer comes in and pays for them. You complain about a problem that was as simple to avoid as phoning the store you were intending to visit.
I don't know about you guys but it annoys the piss out of me when I feel I have wasted my time for no good reason. So Gamestop/EB Games and I have a history which starts with $17 worth of trade in credit disappearing and no manager assistance, thus I am out $17 worth of traded in game credit.... Long story. Anyhow, I made the mistake of thinking that a modern company like Gamestop would have a real time inventory tracking software package that can update the website. I check the website for in store availability for The Darknessand it says my local store has plenty like 5+ copies in stock. Cool, now if it said it had like 1 or 2 copies I would have called ahead but I am thinking they got plenty no worries. So I drive 15 minutes to the mall where the EB store is. I look at the wall and no luck, so i think maybe they have it in the new release case behind the counter. Well no luck there either. The guy behind the counter I talk to informs me that they have a bunch of copies but they are for pre-orders, OK great this isn't Halo 3 for God's sake. Your website says you have a bunch of copies available, I drive to your store to find out they are already reserved, say what? I know my buddy behind the counter is basically a minimum wage earner who works at this store for the discount more than anything so I don't fire him up too much but damn it annoys me when I waste my time like this. Maybe it is just me but if the small retail establishment I work for can afford software that keeps up to the minute inventory on our website why can't a huge nation wide chain spend a bit of coin and get a system that omits products that are unavailable because they have been reserved.rwoot
Hey I see the SeaHawks logo - if you're in the greater Seattle area you need to drop Gamestop and start using GameCrazy stores which are located in the Hollywood video chain. Not only did they have massive quantities available on the actual launch date - but they are always very helpful and give the best trade in values. I live in Marysville - and GameCrazy is the only place I buy games anymore. IMO they're the best place in WA to get games - not sure about elsewhere but I suspect the same.

OK here we go again. A small retail shop can take a deposit and put an item in a layaway mode so it does not appear on our website and mislead a potential customer into thinking we have an item available. Again a multimillion dollar nation wide chain of stores cannot manage to do such an amazing accomplishment. Again if the website said 1 or 2 available I would have called however 4+ available tells me I am probably good to drive 15 minutes and pick it up. Again the clerk did not say oh sorry we just sold out. And for an update GS/Eb website still lists 4+ units at said location. Get it genius. Not that big of a deal, i will find the game tomorrow, just annoyed I wasted time because of a companies lack of customer service or software savvy.

Could of phoned should have phoned , simple as that geniusCould have phoned, should not have to phone (21st century has been here for almost a decade), EB lost a sale.... And you missed the point.rwootDidnt miss the point just know why they dont mark them as sold or layaway as you like to say were as you obviously dont.
Hate to break it to you pal but when you check in store availability it clearly (and in red) says on top of the message that that is NOT a real time service and that games sell quickly so you should check by phone.
You were warned and it is not GS fault you did not pay attention.
No flaming ,but you are giving an attitude when all ogf it is entirely your fault

how'd they lose a sale if they were sold out anyway?
In Australia we don't know what the hell Gamestop is but we do have EB here and we know what it stands for (electronic boutiques). Aye, we aussies need to adapt into American gamer stuff.Alpha172
Gamestop is basically the same store because they are owned by the same company. EB was its own store at one point and then Gamestop corporation bought EB. The old EB was a lot better than the new Gamestop owned EB.

I did spare you the details. All I said is that there are alternatives. That's pretty much the bare minimum that I could have said without not saying it at all. The fact that I prefaced my post by saying that I didn't read your original post was so I would not be chastised in case my comments were redundant.
Also, someone who quoted me mentioned you said that these stores are your only options. It seems, however, that you have access to an internet connection. I'll also go out on a limb and assume that you have a mailing address. I think you know where I'm going with this. I'll spare you the details.
Maybe you missed the fact that they very clearly state right at the top of the Product Availability screen of whatever game you're looking at, in red font no less:
"Important: Please call store to confirm availability. This is not a real-time count and products sell quickly. In-store pricing may vary from online pricing."
And unfortunately, pre-orders still only go to those that pre-ordered them. That's right, even if "it's not Halo 3".
which is why i never go there to get a new game. You can never trust anything but Calling a retailer to check availability.
And Gamestop hardly ever gets enough copies of a game to cover anything over the preorders.
JDUB_x
So technically they did have some in stock, but they were for pre-orders. What doesn't make sense to me is why in this modern age a person wouldn't pick up the phone and call (which would've taken less then 2 minutes) to be sure before they had copies to sell before making the 15 minute drive.
Sorry about your $17 though. :?
im not sure why ppl shop there...
why would i trade in one of my games for 10 bucks store credit just to see it being sold the next day for 54 bucks.
why would i buy a new game there when its already opened?
why would i buy a system there and somethinbg goes wrong and i dont want that system any more and i can get is 30 bucks store credit for it. when if i bought it at another stored ied get a full cash refund.
ied like to help a gaming store but these guys are not worth it!!!

Don't get pissed off because you can't blame anyone but yourself for not taking the proper precautions of CALLING AHEAD! It even says that on their site. It's a new release. Think about it, if it's not too much strain.
