Hello, bought my Xbox about 3.5 yrs ago, taken pretty good care of it. The DVD drive acted up about a year ago, took the case apart, and blew out / cleaned the dust and debris from the DVD drive gears, and it's worked great since then. But,. got the RROD for the first time. After watching Youtube videos, and reading fixes, I decided to take the case apart and clean it out real good. It still wouldnt stop displaying the RROD so I tried the towel trick which did work, and the system has run for about the last week, until the RROD came back today.

So, debating on what to do. Should I buy a new Xbox ( by doing so, will this mean the processor is smaller, less heat, etc? ) Or, should I send the system in to Microsoft and have them fix it ( for about $100 bucks? ). I have atleast 30 Xbox games ( large financial investment ) so not having an Xbox is just not an option.

Also, has there been any talk/speculation about Microsoft making a smaller, more efficient ( micro sized Motherboard, more integrated, less heat producing ) system? It'd be really nice to get atleast 5 yrs. out of the system before it breaks.

Two people at work have both had to replace their Xbox 360 twice due to the RROD, and both refuse to get a third system, they've simply given up on the console.

Thanks for any info.

If you took it apart, you voided it anyway. And since you're out of warranty, just get a new one......

True that, you better act fast Microsoft will probably drop the 360 Pro price a few bucks since it will be discontinued, or you can just wait to get an Elite for $299.99 in a few months

If you pick up one of the newer model 360's on the shelves today, you will probably wind up getting the newest "Jasper" chipset. It has a 65nm chipset and is supposedly much safer then before (Less RROD). However, if you dont want to shell out the $ for the new system, i actually suggest opening the system and fixing it yourself (X-Clamp Replacement). I had my 360 from launch, it RROD about 2 weeks after the 3 year warranty was up, so i decided to try to save some money and order the screws to get rid of the x-clamps. The whole price came out to about $8 and i had a working 360 once again.
