When I was just hooking up my 360 at my dorm room today, I turned it on and it showed the RROD. Two important things were different from a real Mesquite-bound RROD. First, the 360 didn't actually turn on, as it was emitting no sound from its motors. Second, the RROD displayed almost immediately after I powered it on; if it was a real RROD it would take about 5 seconds or so to show it. Works fine now with the power cord inserted all the way.

If your cords are not plugged in all the way

It shows red rings

Its not a hardware failure

Its just telling you that your cords are not in

I was wondering why it would have happened... ya see in order for this to happen the A/C cord has to be just right - too far in the 360 will operate normally not far enough nothing will turn on at all.

You can also get a false RROD if your power flickers out like it might during a thunderstorm.
