I'm not bashing halo... I'm just trying to figure out whats wrong with my setup thats causing the terrible picture quality.

I don't have an HD TV but I have heard that the picture quality is alright. What I am experiencing is NOT alright. The picture is terribly grainy with digital noise all over the screen. Pre-rendered CGI scenes (such as those for the movies that play as the disk initially loads) are fine.

I've tried different TVs with the same result... is there something wrong with my xbox 360? (I've noticed this with gears of war and bioshock to a (much) lesser extent)

I already tried changing the display settings. (And they were not set to HD anyways, because I don't have an HD TV and I didn'tget a compulsive urge to lieto my XBOX during the initial setup.)

The pre-renderedgameplay that plays when you go to the start screen and leave the console idle looks perfectly fine... it is just the in-game graphics that have the terrible digital noise. (I am sure that info can help narrow down the possible problems)

Yea, I tried changing the switch too. Turns out it won't even display any picture if its set to HD and you are using a non-hd tv.

And I tried it on another TV with the same results. (Both were CRT tvs though...)

If anyone is playing halo 3 on a non-hd crt tv, let me know how your graphics are please!

check to see if your connections at the back of the tv are correct. maybe make sure your tv doesn't have other wierd settings enabled.

Ok... I tried it on two different TVs... and I have messed around with my tv settings on both of those sets extensively to no avail.

I'm guessing at this point that its a problem with my Xbox 360.. Should I send it in? (I doubt getting an HD set is going to fix it).

The same thing happened to me, I just got my copy exchanged. So just get your copy exchanged for a new one and you should be good.
