I dont know if anyone else has heard about the 18 year old who killed a taxi driver and said he was reenacting a gta4 scene, but it makes me sick. This is an adult who is blaming his own actions on a game? everyone is saying oh, he was so nice and polite he had no brain issues poor guy the evil game corrupted him lets ban the evil game! I played gta4, you probably did too. niether of us has killed anyone! why do people think that because it is a game it should be blamed for the actions of some disturbed idiot who would have commited a crime regardless of whwether or not he had played a game. i think there were murderers before games were invented. what if i saw an English person and stabbed them with a sword, saying i was reenacting a scene from the revolutionary war? could i get all these news reporters to start saying we should take George Washington off the dollar bill?

No only people are responsible for their own actions. Not games, not music, not movies.

Thats a very good point IMO.

Also it's true because that probably would happen.

As shown by a user above, that some things do have effects on the people that play games like GTA4 but at the end of the day you cant really commit a crime and then blame it on the game. Because at the end of the day the game did not force him to do it or anyone at all. It would just take someone with the mind-state capable of doing it. I've heard cases of this aswell in america a kid and his friend broke into there dads cupboard, stole his rifle and went to the motorway (highway whatever) and started randomly shooting at cars, and the stupid kid hit a pregnant women in the leg. A few inches from her stomach. i DONT THINK YOU CAN BLAME YOUR REAL LIFE ACTIONS ON A VIRTUAL GAME, I've had some foguht of things but nothing to do with shooting other people of stuff like that.

I hate the fact people blame it on games, like seroiusly? Movies are much more violent then games and are more realistic too. They show bank robberies and how to do stuff a normal person won't think of. So does thta mean I can try those stunts and go try rob a bank just because I saw it in the movies and it looked really easy?

Good one...NOT, movies are a passive experience while games are active. If you played GTA IV, you would know you dont just watch somebody rob a bank, you rob the bank

And look at the way this plays out. A person kills someone and blames, video games, music, a movie, etc. And then of course all these groups swoop in, using this person as their 'see, we were right all this time!' and try to get laws to ban, restrict, etc. And then of course...the killing was a single event and most of the time the person who did the killing wasnt of the right mind to begin with. So grand theft auto made this kid kill this taxi driver? Oh...but I also remember this. In grand theft I don't have to kill any cab driver. Imagine that. Then again, I also have the intelligence not to go killing innocent people to begin with.

That is rediculus, i have heard this story b4 and it is so stupid. peolple dont just instantly become sociopathic murderers there as to be some background of violence and since gta 4 only came out in 2008 i dont think we can blame it on gta 4. whenever someone kills someone people who know them always say "oh they were so nice i dont know wat happend" but in reality tons of these ****ed up people keep completely to themselves untill finnaly they go crazy and no one else expects it.

plus zaidpass you'r right i hate racism and wish it would stop for good.

I honestly don't believe he even touched GTA IV at all. He was probably looking for a scapegoat to commit a crime, and what's better than what everyone else is using as a scapegoat for EVERYTHING?

Besides, a lot of people have GTA IV, millions in fact. How many of them have killed people in real life?

First of all, this guy should get the lethal injection for his crime. But, if this is true that he had no previous mental issues then at some point we really need to ask ourselves, did this game really influence him? The sick part is maybe this sicko was curious and wanted to copy the game. Its a tough call, how do we know something is really wrong with somebody until it's too late. People kill people, but some things or circumstances make it easier. I personally believe nobody should be playing GTA. If we as a society cannot draw the line somewhere, what's next? But, this guy needs to own up to what he did whether or not he was influenced by anything else because he had a choice.

and YOU have issues if you really are trying to make a clear comparison between Real life and something out of a fantasy. Let me guess, You come out of kung fu movies thinking you are a master now huh? That matrix has you!

Well he tried saying that movies you get to see people rob banks, and he obviously didn't play GTA, cause WE get to rob a bank. But obviously this kid was messed up from the start

why do some people try to ruin games for the rest of us. look at the millions of copys that game sold and the hand full of people who try to mimic the game these types of stories make me sick really sick. They dont get the concept of video games so they try to act out what they see in game. He probably thought a level 1 wanted was goin to appear on top of his head too freakin moron.

sigh...

ever gta game that comes out someone brings this up

im not going to say that the game dosent cause murders, but 97% of the time the familys just want a scapegoat, so they balme it on the game.

How come no one gets upset at call of duty or Bioshock for that matter, for god sake in bioshock you can kill little girls!!! (great game though)

BTW to the little kids that play gta STOP SCREAMING IN THE MIC.

dude... use a line break every once and a while, it makes it much easier to read...

virtually every form of media has been blamed for deviant behavior, first TV, then music, then movies, now it's video games. There are always going to be messed up people on this earth and everyone is always looking for a scapegoat.

I don't see why people blame murders on violent games, People have control over there actions no video game is capable of controlling someone.

'Police said the youth, an obsessive player of "Grand Theft Auto", showed no sign of mental problems during questioning and had confessed to committing the crime because of the game.'

From an article. And wow... just wow...

He obviously had mental issues because he killed someone.

By the way, here's the article.

Its an easy scapegoat, because of the negative attention surrounding kids and violent games that has been built up. So anyone can blame it on a game and all those stupid parents and congressmen can say, "I told you so."
