Oblivion is easily the longest 360 game out there. I've logged over 300 hours into it. No co-op though, single player only.
I'd say maybe try Forza 2 if you want somthing that will last you a long time & can be played online. Or Guitar Hero 2 although you would need to get a 2nd guitar for co-op.
Marvel Ultimate alliance has a decently long single player, and it's all co op too! it's great. Uh, Oblivion is ridiculously long, obviously, but no co op.
Crackdown could be just what you're looking for, the co-op is freaking brilliant in that game, (nothing says fun like standing on top of a building & playing catch with a bus with your buddy on top of another building. First person to drop the bus loses!). Beyond that, try Marvel:UA if Oblivion isn't your thing.
i am trying to figure out what game to buy. i want a game with a long single player mode andpossibly co-op.

If you can wait, I would suggest get Two Worlds on August 14. It will have a pretty deep single player and co-op with up to 8 players. That is if you can wait.
Saints Row and the Godfather are two good free-roam games with over 20 hours of gameplay. Also any sports game basiclaly lasts forever until the newest ones comes out.
