I used to always trust gamespot for accurate reviews but now their reviews are getting so distant from player reviews I just don't know whether it's accurate. Examples:

SW TFU: GS score-7.5 user score 8.5

Mercenaries 2- GS score 5.0 user score 7.9

Mount and Blade- GS score 6.0 user score 9.3

Warhammer Battle march- GS core 5.5 user score 7.5

Too Human-GS score 5.5 user score 7.3

Has gamespot lost it's touch?

I don't believe that gamespot is jaded in that sense, I think your not looking at the fact that there are fan bases for these games. As a star wars fan, I'd give TFU an 8.5 because of the story. But that is just me. Gamespot is reviewing for a majority of people. Also, I'd rather them under rate a game, rather than add to the hype machine and hand it a ten. In the end, maybe it isn't the best idea, but there is no way to completely satisfy everyone. Use Gamespot reviews as an idea. Then do the research by checking other sites and forums, and of course, playing it. But as far as losing the touch? I don't think so.

Often times people will play the game and rate it a 10 based on their experience alone. Their review isn't for the good of the people, it's just their opinion. Did the game they rate a 10 actually deserve a 10? no way. Gamespot reviews the game in the interest of the people, the rating is pretty accurate to what the game actually is. Some reviews may be harsh, but still a lot more accurate than your avg Gamespot user that votes everything they play a 10.

Another thing I'd like to add is that I think Gamespot is rating the games a bit tougher due to the mass amount of games being made this gen. It needs to be compared to other top rated games out there. does Mount and Blade deserve the 9.3 user rating compared to the 9.0 GS gave cod4? I think not.

Anyways, that's my opinion regarding the matter :D

gamespot is actually good for reviews the only reason user scores are higher is because people buy the games and then they cant accept that its krappy so they give it a high score

That actually makes some sense. In order to keep up with the amount of games coming out. Anyways that means if GS gives a high score then it's really good.

Most of GM reviews are spot on the way they score them is based on all the games in that genre. They compare them to all the great games and give it a score sometimes they give it a bigger score as the company may be sponsoring GM same as IGN however i believe they are very good.

I actually agree with you. Not based on user scores but based on metacritic. The meta score on some games varies by as much as 3 points sometimes. For those of you that dont know metacritic averages all the review sites into one score. If all the other sites are giving a game an average of 8.5 and then GS is giving it a 5 then something just doesnt seem right.

Dont get me wrong, I tend to agree with them *most* of the time but I do feel they are grading on a much harder curve then everyone else.

Gamespot used to be a good place to get a second opinion but now its just not what it used to be. All the good reviewers have either gotten fired or left (Jeff, Dave, etc.)

I used to trust Gamespot but now it seems that its all going to hell.

The user scores are usually the following of people that have waited for a long time, most of those will probably be 10's and there aren't that many people that will rate it low because chances are they won't bother rating it. Either way it's flawed any way you look at it unless it's the entire community. Just make your own opinion and that's all that matters.

It should be pretty accurate because they do it as a job. The reviewers has a lot of gaming mileage so they should be able to make good comparisons & ratings based on their gaming history. Compare it to a casual player who just bought a console bundled with a game. They tend to rate games high for ok games & rate bad games as ok because they have not played a lot of games. For example just look at the rpg genre. If your like a newbie then you would give games like eternal sonata or tales of vesperia a 9 because your new to the experience, but if your a veteran rpg gamer then you would just rate this a average or just ok because you have played a lot of rpg games & you compare it to the great rpgs you have played.
