the single player gets boring pretty quickly. but if you have XBL, it's pretty fun! I played it at a friends house and had a blast :D

I really enjoyed the singleplayer, one of my best gaming experiences. The online isn't too fun though as far as competitive modes go. I've had fun messing around with a buddy fighting other people, but it's not a lasting fun. However, I've really enjoyed myself going online and playing some freemode with just friends and messing around. Playing freemode in public rooms just gets hectic. Also, the extra missions online I found to be very fun.

hmm, I'm getting mixed messages here, but they're both positive, I still wanted to know if it's really all that different from san andres (I found it unstructered and didn't like the characters)

I don't know if you'll like it. GTA4 follows the GTA formula, but just switches up the characters. You still steal cars and do missions for friends, but the main character is Eastern European, as are most of your friends. Instead of taking place in San Andreas (L.A.), you're back in Liberty City (N.Y.)

A lot of the bits of humor are still there, but it's a lot less campy than some of its predecesors; it takes the story a little more seriously.

The Live games are fun, since you can run around huge areas and play around with stuff, like trying to mow down other players with a helicoptor.

If you're that worried about it, just rent it first.

It's the highest rated game for the Xbox 360 according to Gamerankings (average of all reviews)

It may have sky high critical reviews, but that doesn't mean everyone is going to enjoy it. GTA 4 is a lot more realistic than san andreas, but causing havoc with the new physics engine is still fun as hell. Online is fun as hell too. My favourite game this gen, but might not be everyone's cup of tee. But you really should give it a try, even if you rent the game.

the characters of GTA4 are very memorable. the only issue there is with GTA4 is that it's TOO real.
