Does anyone else think that setting GTA4 in a non-fictional setting could be a mistake?

One of the appeals of GTA has been the humourous easter eggs and jokes in their made up places. Not to mention the amount of fun and intresting stuff they could put in.

It just seems like they are about to turn the series super serious. Huge mistake in my opinion..

Or they are trying to outshine True Crime

That won't be too difficult..

It's still taking place in a non-fictional setting; it's just borrowing certain real-life landmarks and making a farce of them.

If you have played GTA: III or GTA: LCS, it's basically a huge recreation of that in much more modern times. I have a feeling it won't look much like it.

All of the settings in GTA are based on real places.  I don't think this is going to be NY. I think it is just a representation of NY.  Also, I don't think that Rockstar even considers True Crime when they make their games and they can still have easter eggs.

The game is from ROCKSATR,you hardly expect them to take it like it is,of course there going to mix things up a bit,but they better be careful about what they put in,there has already been a statement bout GTA 4 only looking like New york, not actually acting like new york,so they might have to be careful not to paint the wrong picture for people or they could have a lawsuit.

ya i'm pretty sure that they can do all the stuff in the game and have it take place in a real city.  I may be wrong but from the disclamer at the beginning of most of the GTA games thats what it seems like to me

not exactly...its taking place in a fictional setting. Non-fiction means real, fiction is fake. Easy mix up.

meh. i think they should have chosen somewhere completely different than what they have done before. I hope they have some new features in there as well. it looks like this is "just another GTA" with pretty graphics.

The game is set in New York, although it's not called New York (Once again Liberty City). The Land Marks are that of New Yorks but renamed. The Statue of Liberty is now called The Statue of Happiness as well as other land marks being renamed. So.....yeah. O! and there are no planes this time around. Obviously to escape controuversy of certain actions that might be taken in the games setting(NYC) Hint Hint 9/11.

People need to get over this, i hate all this political correctness crap.

How bout we stop arguing over the location, and start to ponder on the features.

GTA has pretty much always been based off of a real life city.  Liberty City is New York, Vice City is Miami (I think I dont remember, I've barely played it) and San Andreas is based of California.  Hell the main pier in the first city in San Andreas is nearly an exact replica of the Santa Monica Pier, it even has that wierd flattening wheel thing, can't remember what they are called, that is used to flatten cement, by the sand and it has the giant ferris wheel and the bridge entrance thing.
