Does anyone know the size of GTA IVs optional install for the 360?
Thanks in advance, unless of course you don't answer me, in which case I will say screw you in advance. lol j/k

i thought it was confirmed.... ps3 ppl HAVE to install a part of GTA IV.... 360 owners its optional but will inprove loading times and performance.
the rumours flying round the internet is 5gb... BUT its unconfirmed so will prob have to wait till its released! i'd be very surprised if its over 5 gb
5GB sounds a lot - that would probably be all game files apart from videos - basically installing the whole game but still needing the disc to run.
I wonder what would happen if you do install, then decide you want the space and delete it - how will it affect the game when you start playing it again?
Installing on the 360? I didn't think that was possible lol. I wouldn't do it anyway, I only have the 20GB hard disc so if I did install it and it was 5GB I would be left with like 4GB remaining. I would have 14 remaining but microsoft take about 6 of it before you even save anything on it.Antaeus1991same here. i wouldn't use up half my remaining hard drive just to improve loading times.
Hey, Wouldn't they have made the standard drive for the 360 bigger is it was possible to install games on it?
It's been 'possible' to install on your 360 HDD since day one. It's just information like any other, games have acess to put save/system data onto the consoles HDD and so it's entirely possible for a complete install.
Whether or not developers choose to (or microsoft lets them) is the real discussion point. Personally, it wouldnt surprise me if this were true, and i would definately install it as i've only used 15gb of my 120, and struggled to do that seeing as i play all my music through my iPod because im not wasting CDs to burn them and rip them all. I always delete demo's etc when im done with them.
So unless youve bought everything on the marketplace, i'd say its entirely plausable MS let this one slip seeing as its such a hugely anticipated title. But there official stance as far as i know, is that they are completely against HDD installs.
I read the same information regarding the optional X360 install for GTA IV. It was a linked article off of N4G.com, but I don't remember the particular source. If loading times and frame rates are awful, I would consider an install, but it would be a hard sell at 5 gigs. Maybe the PS3 version isn't looking so bad...2headedhawaiian
The install is for a faster loading in the beginning. It doesn't affect the framerate.
you could always "install" games (more specificly parts of games) on your xbox... a few months after the 360 was released there was a demo for a final fantasy game (dnt know which one) that required you to install some files... prob more popular than you think... we just don't know about it
btw i thought 5 gb was very big too... just what i heard from a search on google so may not be true!
Nearly ALL games are on dual layered discs these days dude, get with the times.
Besides, a 5gb install doesnt necissarily mean 5gb of data on the disc. Although it is optional (IF the rumor is true) so i doubt the compression is too rediculous though so it would more than likely be 5gb or so worth of art assets.
For example if the install was mandatory, then that 5gb could be something like 3, or even less on the disc.
Theres no option to do an install, take it from me as i have the game.

Since when does post count make a difference?
Besides, i'd say it's entirely plausable, we already know MS doesnt like installs, and we already know that the game has been leaked. I'd say its entirely possible this guy speaks the truth and has simply created a dummy account to shield his identity to prevent ban. Not that it would save him from an IP ban.

I'm not saying the lack of an install function is untrue. Of course it's entirely possible he's telling the truth. It's also entirely possible I'm the lead developer on the X360 version of GTA IV, and I would know more than Mr. 6 posts.
Any amount of time spent perusing this site would clue you into the average post counts of the most ridiculous TCs you'll come across, which is less than 20. That means I am less inclined to believe important information from someone with so few posts. It's called being rational.
The point is, if the install option does indeed exist, and it noticeably improves load times/performance, it's a tempting opportunity. If it doesn't exist, then this conversation is over. Being a dual-console owner, I am curious as to what performance improvements (if any) the mandatory install provides for the PS3 version.

He is level 10, though. So I don't think it is a dummy account. Just pointing that out. Back on topic... haha
The "install" of GTA4 will be done just like the install of Oblivion was.
It will be a "flash" install of data, loaded onto the hidden portion of the HD (you know, that 7gigs of space that was "missing" when you bought your consoles). The flash instal will allow the game to load a bit quicker, reduce pop-in, and try to restrain some slowdown.
It is a "flash" install, because it erases anytime you switch games out, or leave the system off for a few days. (This is why it sometimes takes a while for some games to load up, when they usually load pretty fast).
There are quite a few games that do this, Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is the most recent example.
So while there won't be a long term data file stored on your HD, there will be an install, though it isn't quite as large as the PS3s.
Jesus guys, doesnt any of you know what the Newsgroups are and how to use them? Well let me tell you that the game has indeed been leaked and ive had it for 2 days, along with probably a huge amount of people who know how to use Newsgroups. The game does NOT install anything onto hd and there isnt any option to do so. I will also sdd the game is truly fantastic and runs as smooth as butter.francisgraham
I also have the game, i have been playing it for about an hour and it is just amazing. As i said in an other post, if the devil is in the details , GTAIV is pure biblical evil. I also have not come across any option to install, but then again ive just been so absorbed buy the game that i have not checked out the menus as yet

If that's indeed true - it cleared it up nicely. Thanks.

I didn't think you could anyway. I was just saying that if you were able to they would have made the standard HDD bigger.
Its rubbish, MS doesnt allow the use of the HDDEgghead360even if they did i cant imagine microsoft letting 5gb slide even for gta iv. reason is most people only have like 12/13gb spare on a fresh system and probally have 1 or 2 things at least downloaded. if they did that then its going to really effect the sales of the videos on demand. as it wud mean for most people they cant fit a hdtv movie on they hard drive as they about 6gb each as well. now thats the real reason microsoft dont allow installs on the hard drive. so cores/arcade can still play the games but i think the real reason is they want the drive to have space because they want you to have chance to buy dlc/movies/music/games off the martkeplace which ur not going to do if u got no space on ur drive
yeha oblivion definetally does install something on load i think. when i turn mine on its also rammed with loads of the dlc from online and a install of the dlc of shivinrg isles off a disc i bought. it takes like 2-3 mins maybe 4 every time i turn it on stuck on the menu waiting for things to load so i can load my saved gameThe "install" of GTA4 will be done just like the install of Oblivion was.
