ive always thought gta games were just sandbox style where you got points for going around stealing cars, hitting cops, picking up hookers, etc.... however, after watching the trailers for gta4 it seems like there is an actual story behind it. were all the games like this or is this new? it seems like something i might actually pick up

All the games were like it, you never got points for doing anything. They were all mission based, your rewards were money to buy new property or weapons.

The story is why people buy it, the sandbox stuff is just extra.
