Guitar Hero III: A sequel to the first 2 guitar hero games, but is it a true sequel? It's not made by the same people, but it is made by Neversoft (who are great developers). If you've played the first 2 you will know how amazingly fun it is to play a plastic guitar, but will Neversoft give justice to the Guitar Hero name?

Features not included in past guitar games:

Battle Mode with tons of power-ups.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rock Band: IMO the actual sequel to Guitar Hero II, but that does not mean it will be better than Guitar Hero III (Neversoft might turn out to be better than Harmonix in this genre).

Features not included in past guitar games:

Drums and singing.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I plan on getting both. I plan on getting Guitar Hero first because it is cheaper (and I will have to spend a lot of money this year on getting a 360), I will probably get Rock Band later for more songs and drums (when it gets a little cheaper).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So which will you get and why?

P.S. Anyone that has more info on either game please add, and I would appreciate it greatly if a mod could sticky this (you'll probably have to sticky a GH vs. RB topic eventually, to avoid a board flooding with threads of the same topic).

For GHIII, Neversoft has gone to great lengths to make sure the game experience is comparable to the first set of GH games. I would contest that although made by a different company, the game is certainly a sequel in spirit, and will most likely feel that way. Rock Band in my opinion is an evolution of the GH concept. By bringing in new instruments, as well as incorporating the Karaoke and Guitar Hero aspects of rhythm games, they are expanding on the guitar hero format and including a different realm of experiences. I will be getting both games, and possibly some of the new instruments. Guitar Hero II has been a blast to play, and everything I've seen and heard has pointed to Guitar Hero III providing an even more enjoyable experience. As for Rock Band, I'm convinced that I will enjoy the vocalist aspects as well as the guitar/bass ones. I am not sure that the drums are for me. The bottom line is that by getting both discs, I will have at least 100 more songs to play. Both games have solid track lists, and both have songs I believe will be a blast to play. Both have online aspects that I expect will be fully flushed out, unlike Guitar Hero II. The bottom line is that both will be fun in their own right, and while one may be better than the other I am not convinced I should avoid the lesser of the two.

The drums look like a crapload of fun on Rock Band, but the singing part is a major tun off to me. I'm not tryin to hear people that can't sing screaching into a plastic mic lol. If there's online, which I think there is, it could be a great time.

Personally, I'm more pumped for GH3 because there's a pretty solid song lineup, and if it holds true to its predecessors and has some online play, it will kick major buttocks.

... I'm not getting gh3 because of the powerups and stuff, it takes away from the experience. I play thesegames to play along with good songs so I can feel like a rock star, those power ups and battles take away from that.

The power ups are only in the battle mode (that's a new mode, the same mode where you rock against Slash), and they will still keep all the other modes.

If Rock Band focuses on playing the guitar it might be better cause it has the better soundtrack. But Guitar Hero has the better presentation and it is just a guitar game which is an advantage. Although I do want to try the drums.

Cause if I just have the guitar I don't wanna play Rock Band with three bars there for bass and drums also and lyrics moving across the screen. I hope when the game comes out you can choose which instruments your using so there won't be too much clutter on the screen. I'm also worried about playing the game with a Guitar Hero guitar cause the Rock Band guitar had to add some dumb buttons just for the sake of saying they have more buttons than the Guitar Hero guitar. PSM played them both and they said the Guitar Hero guitar is better.

The extra buttons are just there to make soloing easier. They are more closely spaced together, and when soloing using those buttons you don't have to strum. I like both of those things; however, I think that the GH3 controller has been said to have a better overall quality, including better weight, more accuracy, and an accessible start/select pad.

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't put all that other stuff on if you're not playing those instuments. Basically Rock Band (in my understandings) can be guitar hero, drum hero, bass hero, singing hero, or any of those combined hero.

-MIKE-"PSM played them both and they said the Guitar Hero guitar is better"

Well that's good (because I'm going to get GHIII first) but you can't really trust just a few people's opinion, you need to get a bunch of peoples opinions for a more accurate answer.

i plan on getting both games but drums only with rock band, u can use the guitar from gh3 to play and vice versa.

i think rock bands gonna be better cause they said there online support with more songs will almost never end until the next game comes out. and we all know how gh songs on live turned out.

It seems most chose Guitar Hero, I figured it would be Rock Band that would be winning because it has the extra instruments and you can still do just guitar. Anyways....any GS score predictions?

I'm guessing Rock Band 9.5 and Guitar Hero 9. (it would be more like9.3 and 8.7 if it weren't for the new rating system).

Rock Band for me. I don't like all the revised graphics for the multiplier and stuff, it just looks ugly and out of place whilst Rock Band is jus stylish and fit together and the stuff with Slash just seems gimmicky for me. I think alot of people are going with GH3 because they know what it is, it is etablished while we don't know so much about Rock Band and peopel are getting confused that they will have to pay $200 while you actually can play it how you want to. You can play it like Guitar Hero if you like, you don't need a bunch of friends around to enjoy the game just because teh name implies so. Harmonix have also said that there will be hundreds of songs to download so it could end up that you get the same songs that you are already getting on GH3 which has already happened as both games will feature Sabotage by the Beastie Boys
