BOTH! But I can't afford either one of them. What am I going to do!
but I do have my credit card for emergencies....
I'll be getting both.
I find it really funny (or disturbing) that all of this "Guitar Hero-Rock Band rivalry" stuff is going on. I mean, granted, they're definitely each other's comepetition this holiday season, but all this "OMG teh R0ck B4nd suxorz itz a ripoff of Guitar H3r0" crap is just, well, dumb. First of all, Harmonix, the development team behind the first 2 guitar heros, is creating Rock Band. They can't rip themselves off. Second of all, Rock Band IS Guitar Hero, but the evolution of the genre. There's rumors of the next guitar hero adding drums and singing, so who's ripping off who now?
The fact of the matter is, they'll both be great games, and anyone who refuses to experience either with an open mind solely on the basis of their franchise preference and ego,is missing out. The track list for Rock Band is a little weak on the guitar side, but I'm a gigantic fan of The Who, so I was sold right from the announcement of Who's Next for DLC. I'm excited to see The Seeker is in GH, even though it's a cover.
Point is, all the debate that I've seen (on other threads, and especially on YouTube) is pretty much pointless. Because they're pretty much the same game, with different tracks (and some of the same tracks), that can ultimately produce a different experience based on who you're playing with.
