Song List? Depends on what songs you like. I strongly prefer Rock Band's.
Hardware Reliability? Guitar Hero 3, but Rock Band has free replacements of any broken instruments that is a very pleasant process that doesnt take long.
I don't understand the last question. I will say that Rock Band has much MUCH MUCH more Downloadable Content that is either available, or will be available soon.
I really enjoy Rock Band, much more than Guitar Hero 3. The game may not be challenging if you have no problems beating Devil Went Down to Georgia and TTFAF on GH3 Expert when it comes to the guitar part. But the drums take a while to get good at and once you do, you should have no problems learning a real set.
Personally i cant justify price tag. If i can find the game on its own i would pick it up and use my gh3 controller. Iknow about 2 people who have it on my friends list and no one in real life that has it, so no real point in me getting it.

Song List - I feel that GHIII has some hits that should not be missed, but that the average song is better in RB. Hardware Reliability - My GHIII guitar is awful, and getting worse. So far, no RB problems. I prefer GH equipment because it is compatible with both games. I'm also worried about the drums, esp. the kick pedal, but the warranty program is solid. DLC - You will only be able to buy it off of Live, as it is DOWNLOADABLE content. GHIII has just over 70 songs, while RB has 53. It looks like RB is more dedicated to DLC, and is going to be getting better DLC than GH. (So far, Metallica and Bowie) I think RB is better if you have friends who are going to play with you often. If you are a gunning it alone, go with GHIII.
