For those of you who play PC games and have played through Halo's 1 and 2 as well as both Half Life games, I believe you'll agree with me when I say that the single player experiences in the Half Life are better than what has been served up by the Halo franchise thus far. Dont get me wrong, I love Halo, and am very much looking foward to Halo 3, but I find it interesting that a superior package like orange box gets nowhere near the amount of attention that Halo 3 does. Especially when you consider that orange box comes with essentially 3.75 complete gaming experiences; that is all of Half Life 2 with enhances graphics to match todays version of the Source engine, Half Life 2 episodes 1 and 2 which are basically 2 thirds of Half Life 3, Team Fortress 2, and Portal. If you havent played Half Life 2 yet prepare to be completely immersed and blown away by the experience. I have no doubt that Halo 3 will be amazing, but still I wonder, with the superior gameplay and level design Valve is throwing out there, why isnt there as much buzz surrounding orange box?

Halo 2's online play is as addictive as crack. I like the the HL, TF & CS games, but have already been there, and am more excited about Halo 3. That's just my opinion.

I have already played HL2 and don't intend to replay it on a console. My PC is aging though, so I will get Orange Box for Portal, which looks awesome, and Episode 2. TF2 looks a little cheesy from the screens.

I can't wait for the Half Life 2 pack. If that's the only game I get I would be completely content with it.

I definitely agree that the Half-Life series is FAR superior to Halo in the single player department, but Halo on Xbox Live is way better than Counter-Strike, in my opinion.

I'm far more excited for the Half Life 2 games and Team Fortress than I am for Halo 3.

Are you guys kidding me? How can you seriously say that... Halo's online mode is "addicting"?! that crap sucks its just a bunch of 8 year olds screaming. Halo is a BASIC FPS, requires NO SKILLS.. I mean come on you get a sward.. LOL I've never played a Half Life game but I am Excited to get this set!

Here's how I'd rank the games already out:

Halo: CE > Half-Life 2 > Halo 2 > Half-Life

Half-Life 2 is hella fun, but the first Halo still takes the cake. The introduction of a two weapon limit, recharging energy shields and separate health, great vehicles (much better than HL2's) and awesome multiplayer means I prefer Halo: CE to basically any other shooter. Now whether Halo 3 will be a succesor to Halo: CE or Halo 2 remains to be seen. If the single player of Halo 3 is like Halo 2's (which was still good, just not great), then I think Orange Box may be better (single player) than Halo 3.

***EDIT:  Halo's online is for beginner FPS players?  WTF does that mean?  There are a lot of Halo 2 players who could rock KB/M players on a cross-platform game.  Halo 2 has a lot of skill and strategy involved, and not every map has the sword (so that's hardly an excuse).  People who hate Halo 2's online are usually just ****ing terrible at it.  Learn to deal.

Anyone who says halo's multi is better than counter strike either hasnt played it, only cares about graphics, is 8-13 years old, or just really sucks at it. Which one are you?

Counter-strike isn't as godly as you want it to be. And since on a high end PC, Counter-strike looks better than Halo 2, your graphics thing kind of falls apart. I think you're not good at Halo 2, so you assume Counter-strike is better 'cause you've played it more.

because gabe is a moron.  he over promises and under delivers.  half life2 came out when halo2 did,  and it is going to show it's age severly when compared to halo3.  go back and play goldeneye again.  as great as it was for the time you'll wonder "is this really the same game?  i remember it being much better than this."

I dont think the game will show any age. The source engine is made to evolve and all of the new technology they are using in episode 2 will be put in retroactively to Half Life 2 and episode 1 to keep them fresh. Theres a GDC interview where Lombardi says this floating around somewhere but I cant seem to find it right now. Halo 3 will probably be a quantum leap foward compared to Halo 2 in the graphics, AI, and physics department, and I would expect to be significantly better than orange box graphically as well, but Half Life should hold its own in all other areas due to the flexibility of the source engine, and the superior level design Valve has already shown especially when compared to the somewhat repepative design choices used by bungie in the past.

As far as multiplayer goes there really isnt any sense in comparing Halo 2 to CS: Source, because CS has evolved so far beyond anything Halo 2 has shown us that it really isnt an even comparison. That being said CS has had so much time to develop that it only makes sense that as of now it is a far deeper, more skilled base game than Halo, and perhaps whatever they do in Halo 3 will be comparable.

i have played all of HL 2 and episode 1, and no i do not agree w/ you. both franchises are amazing, and halo is in no way miles above HL, but it is still a better franchise IMO.

cs source isn't in the orange box.  cs is actually a better game than halflife.  most people bought halflife1 to play counterstrike,  not halflife.  but ut has a mod called tactical ops (used to be called swat before a copyright case) that is as good as counterstrike.  infact it's almost a clone.  and i'm better it'll be remade useing ue3.

The simple fact that Half-Life 2 is getting ready for a third and fourth release on totally new and different systems shows that there's still demand for this game and the level of recognition is receiving is virtually unparalleled. So, yes, HL is better than Halo in this regard...But both franchises brought something new to the fps genre and they've evolved combat in a manner which can only be surpassed by more Halo's and HL's.
Do we really have to pick one? Can't we just bow our heads in respect and play both of them?
