Half-Life 2/Orange Box is the most frustrating game I've ever played.

God, this game is so frustrating. How come you can only jump 2 inches? What's the point of having an option to jump if it's useless? Is Freeman morbidly obese or something? And how come when you grab a box or anything else you don't grab it firmly? Anytime you're grabbing a box to move and you hit a wall, you drop the box. Don't even get me started on driving, climbign ladders or swimming.

I've heard so many great things about this game, and I'm doing my best to stick it out because it is alot of fun, but some of the problems with it really make me want to throw my controller at the ground out of frustration.

That's odd as I didn't experience those particular problems, although I do agree the driving aspect was simply horrible.

It's a fun game, but it's not as good as a lot of people make it out to be. I found the controls to be a bit stiff compared to other shooters.

Also it's a lot easier to control on the PC.

I never bought into the Half Life buzz as I too found the gameplay annoying. Pretty fun on the first run through but not for replaying. I agree the driving is horrible but I think the most infuriating thing is clipping corridor walls with your (supposedly) enormous shoulders and girth.

I think it's a combination of dated gameplay and restrictive level design, respectively.

It was frusterating at first, but once you get used to it the game is really fun. You just need to play it a while. And don't worry, none of those problems are in episode 2.

Something as simple as getting off a ladder turns into a huge mess because it's so difficult.

Same...and how would they accomplish some of the puzzles without the loose grabbing? Sometimes you have to rotate objects into the right place.

I find it funny that you're complaining about the physics, which is one of the most realistic in any video game.

It's really not a frustrating game, maybe it just isn't for you. For every complaint I have about The Orange Box I can list 100 praises. Also your control issues are more because it's made for a PC not really a console, a small price to pay if you ask me.

I never experienced any of the frustrations/problems listed above.

To me, it played as any other game does. I sat down, picked up the controller, and awayyy I went.

It was an excellent game in all aspects. Worth every bit of praise it has received.

did not experience any of the above mentioned problems, i found the game to be excellent. To me the only lack luster game in the bunch was portal which im sure most will disagree with me on that.

It uses realistic physics, so I can't see the problem.

Halo allows you to leap around like you have springs for legs, while Gears of War seems to think everyone has blocks of concrete for feet and is therefore unable to scale the huge heights that is a curbstone at the side of the road.

I agree.

The driving controls are by far the worst I've ever seen in a first person, the back tracking is anoying and I got lost way to often and I hate that Gordon is mute.

It's not so bad in other games like Metroid Prime and the call of Duty series. In Metroid Prime theres nothing really to talk to and in Call of Duty your being ordered, not having one sided confersation. But in Half-Life people actually try to talk to you and the ffact you can't talk back couldnt take me out of the experience any more. And with out him grunting or anything when ever he gets hurt it only reminds me even more I playing a videogame.

Peopl may say it's suppose to be immersive, but it does quite the opposite for me.

It's a fun game but it's a joke to say it's the best. Once I beat it, I never played it again and thats another thing. No replay value.

Stop trying to play it like it's Halo, for one. You also have to realize that Freeman isn't just some mutated superhero or some bodybuilder at peak physical condition. He's just a regular dude. regular dudes do not jump 8 feet into the air carrying about 200 lbs. of weapons on their person. Given how relatively rare it is in this game to have to go fish something out from underwater, I've not spent much time really jumping into the water at all, especially since most of the powerups will just float on the surface. I will concede that it is hella weird when you're trying to climb out of the water onto solid land/platform.

You must really suck at it, because TF2 is a brilliant game.

Best. Game. Ever.

btw press x then you can do a run up. You aren't meant to jump 10 feet in te air like halo, its more realistic and you have to use your head to get round things.

Oh yeah. Because if someone thinks the jumping isnt high enough in this game, it automatically means they were expecting it to be like Halo, right?

You can't jump any higher in Half-Life 2 than you can in say Doom or Wolfenstein or Duke Nukem.

The gameplay in Half-Life is pretty sluggish however, but if you are seriously expecting to leap 20 feet in the air and bounce around like in Halo, then you are out to lunch.

Besides, I bought the Orange Box just for Portal, and as far as I'm concerned it was money well spent.

This is the xbox board. any bad FPS characteristics can be pretty much traced back to Halo. Or did you not see how Yahtzee dissected Turok and came to the same conclusion.

Gordon Freeman died for your sins TC, you should bow your head in shame.

2000 years from now, you will be remembered as the one who doubted him.

Backtracking and vehicles were the only parts I had trouble with, everything else played into the puzzle solving aspects; like using cinder blocks to keep one side of a ramp weighed down so you can run off of it.

For the record, I've never played Halo and have no intentions to, so that's not the reason I hate the jumping. Only other FPS I've played is COD4, which I had alot of fun with. I use my 360 for mostly sports games and to stream movies.

And HL2 is a game about Aliens and apocalyptic worlds so don't use the argument that it's a realistic game and that's why you can only jump 2 inches. Freeman has no problem picking up barrels filled with gasoline. I guess he's got a superhuman upper body and weak lower body?
