Fastest way to kill someone without picking up any new weapons: Nail him with machine gun and run up and hit him.

If you just got your 360, maybe you have not gotten used to FPS with the controller yet. When I first got my 360 it felt very clumsy. Once you get used to it it is really very easy.

My gamertag is Unholimess and I will be only playing until Oct 1 (my 3rd free trial expires the and I don't have enough online games to make paying for gold worthwile.

There are tips and tricks but no matter how many you know, the game comes down to one thing.... TARGETTING. The quicker you get the reticule onto them and keep it there through all the movements, the better you will do.

Shooting the head does more damage.

Battle Rifles (BR's) are usually essential.

Play some non-ranked games online and then check out the stats afterwards. Look for the guy or guys that did the best and then head over to the film room and watch the match from his perspective to get tips for what to do.

You can learn lots of good tactics this way but in order to execute them you need....... TARGETTING!!!!!!!!!!!!

The tried and true 'the more you play, the better you get' mantra applies perfectly to Halo. When I started out I couldn't even walk in a straight line, now I can get double kills with just one BR clip. Trust me, just keep at it, you'll get the hang of it, this is coming from a guy who SUCKS at majority of console FPS's.

some tips:

- learn the maps! know the weapons, power-ups and equipment locations. Go into a closed custom game and walk around the map by yourself to learn everything, I did that for Last Resort and Guardian before jumping into online andit really helped.

- stick with your team and work together, that is of course if you're playing a team game, you don't have any team members in Lone Wolves afterall, hahaha.

- learn to use the Assualt Rifle. 99.9% of game modes has you spawning with this weapon, learn to use it stat. In close range it always beats the BR, but at medium to long range the BR will destroy it.

- occasionally glance at your radar throughout the match, will save you from getting hit from behind.

- when you're surrounded and have no shields, jump away and spin while looking down, this way you can't get headshot-ed and you'll be harder to hit. trust me this works.

it is helpful, but utterly useless and obvious. oh yeah, TC when you crouch and move you don't show up on radar, good thing to know.

Get good with the sniper, at first I think everyone sucks at it but after you get good at it it kicks ass. Also try to stay somewhat close to some cover so if you start to get shot you can take cover behind that. I also find being up high helps to so that you can just jump on top of the enemy before they even see you. I'll add you as a friend to.

when ever your shield is down after fighting someone. hide behind something and crouch, or run away until your shield comes back.
and use the battle rifle for enemies who are farther away and aim for the head(they die faster).

use the assault rifle for people at mid range or close range.

use the shot-gun for really close range obviously.

if you don't have a battle rifle and you see someone at far range, throw frag gernades.

try to only use sticky gernades for close range.

AND RELOAD YOUR WEAPON. always reload your weapon after you've shot at someone and they ran away or hid or after you've killed someone. the last thing you want is to run out of ammo when you're going one on one with someone.

And with real close encounters, shoot at them with a close range weapon and melee them immediately after.

hope that helps you a little bit. i'm sure you'll get better as you play. when i started out, i sucked soooo bad. but now i'm always one of the best players on my team :D

Do not listen to the people who are telling you to "aim for the head". With a battle rifle it takes 4 shots to kill someone. The first 3 shots will take out shields, it is best to aim for the chest so that the whole 3 shot burst lands on them. Your 4th shot has to be on the head. I would like to help you out more considering I have two level 50 accounts and competed in MLG before starting college, but my 360 finally died on me. But if you just remember to get good at "4 shotting" you will do fine.

my number one tip is,

learn how to toss grenades right where your opponent is about to step

a good grenade can bring their shields down instantly and theres your kill.

a very good point, whenever you get a break from the action, reload. after every firefight make sure both of your weapons are fully loaded, even if you just used 2 sniper bullets in the 4 round clip, reload!

Weapons:

Assault rifle: Shoot someone then run up and hit

Battle rifle: Aim for head (icon will turn red) and fire-do not stand out in open while zoomed in

Beam rifle + sniper rifle: Aim for head and fire- do not stand out in open while zoomed in

Needler: aim and fire- sort of hard to aim

Brute shot: aim and fire just ahead of target

Gravity Hammer: Run. Smash. Kill.

Energy Sword: Run. Slash. Kill.

Plasma pistol: Not very effective against people, but if you charge it up and shoot it at a vehicle the vehicle will jam for a couple of seconds- follow this up with a grenade to destroy vehicle.

Plasma rifle: aim and shoot-most effective while wielding two.

Spiker: aim and shoot most effective while wielding two.

Shotgun: at very close range one shot one kill.

SMG: Aim and fire- this is very effective while wielding 2, it rips through almost anything including light raid vehicles.

Spartan laser: you should constantly be charging, most effective on vehicles but also works on players if you can aim properly.

Magnum: Only use if you have no other weapon.

Carbine: Effective from far.

Mauler: Not very effective since slow rate of fire.

Rocket Launcher- very effective against vehicles, very effective against players as well because of it's large area of impact. Not a lot of ammo so it is recommended to save for vehicles.

________________________

GRENADES and EQUIP

________________________

Frag grenade- aim ahead of moving targets- very useful to knock over warthogs.

Spike grenade- Make sure you throw this directly at your target since it sticks.

Plasma grenade- most effective when thrown directly at your target as it is sticky.

Bubble shield: Toss up when you are under fire-keeps out bullets and explosions but not attackers.

Grav Lift: use to get to higher areas- also useful to flip over enemy vehicles by placing right in front of a moving vehicle.

Power drain: use on vehicles to completelyt shut down or on players to get rid of shields.

Regenerator: use when very low on health to instantly give you max health.

Active camouflage: use to make yourself invisible and kill unsuspecting enemies- very powerful with shotgun.

Trip mine: place in areas that are often walked upon by enemies-for instance near enemy base.

That's all my advice for you...

^ wow. you know the carbine just annihilates when you get good with it, one of my favorite weapons. Also the magnum does suck, I miss the Halo1 magnum, geez that thing was amazingly overpowered. The mauler is actually very good on narrows, before the first update there used to be more maulers on that map, now there's only like 2. Since there's no more shotgun on the map it is a really handy secondary weapon in close quarters fights. In high ground, the mauler is useless though, don't bother picking it up.

also for the spartan laser, try not to miss, you only get 5 shots with it. also if your teammates are shooting someone, switch to your BR or something and help, don't waste a laser shot on a guy that's already garunteed to die. Especially on last resort, save it for vehicles and whatnot, don't waste shots on people, unless it's a last resort.

first of all.......... NEVER AIM FOR THE HEAD WHEN SHOOTING THE BATTLE RIFLE!! only shoot them in the head when u know that all u all u need need is 1 more burst. and dont just stand there when trying to out battle rifle (or out BR) someone...strafe from left to right make ur movements unpredictable. and TRAIN YOUSELF BY NOT LETTING YOUR THUMBSTICK HIT THE SIDES OF THE CIRCLE EVERYTIME(if that made sense) AND HERES THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE... when u think ur dead NEVER GIVE UP even if u die but thats the fastest way to get better. if u can put one for shot on them before u die DO IT!! who cares if u dont kill em and i bet eventually youll be good just watch. and sometimes after ur done with a game go to the theatre and watch it and see wat u did wrong andd right. and when no scoping try to keep the sniper as steady as possible and dont just use the right stik to aim use ur body to aim also WELL GOOD LUCK

my gamertag is Bravownu just in case u want to know more

change look sensitivity to 1 when it is snipers or when you are learning, trust me it is easier to aim.

shotty, shoot then beat down

swords b button is faster, but less strong

play social to get started
