I know it's not final yet, but the game play in the alpha build video just released. Looks like it has too much of the newbie Halo 2 game play in it. The reason Halo 1 was so popular was that it didn't have the crazy run and gun antics that a lot of fps had but its wasn't as harsh as Rainbow Six. It was the perfect blend of the two game types and if you wanted to run around like an idiot and charge a skilled player blindly you got put down quickly. Halo 1 had a lot of strategy to the weapons and gameplay. Halo 2 threw that out the window for a more newbie conscious and mainstream game which majorly pissed off the hardcore halo fans the online feature is the only thing that save it but weaken grenade, shotguns, pistil, and the removal of the assault rifle completely turned the game into a spray and pray free-for-all. The was no reward for being careful no reward taking carful aim with headshot you just pumped as many clips into you enemies as possible until the fell dead. If you got the jump on someone in halo 1 they were dead in halo 2 you can fire the first few rounds into and opponents head and they could still turn and kill you. The huge halo LAN parties that use to go on lasted for the entire life of the game. I never heard anyone say that they were ever tired of halo 1 multiplayer my friends got tired of halo 2 in two weeks. So im worried for this game I hope they really listen to the hardcore halo fans and not just the ones that jumped on at part 2.

i somewhat agree and i understand where you're coming from but i'm not worried for Halo 3, Bungie knows the hype that's built around the game and you can tell that they are really trying to nail the gameplay more then anything.

bungie knows what to do, they'll get it right. if they don't they will forever be known that they got it wrong.

Both halos were exceptional games in my opinion (the first more for core gameplay; the 2nd for an extremely well implemented online portion).

I think Halo3 will be a game worth buying no matter what.

halo is a lot better than halo 2. Halo 2 is a lot more noobier and it takes no skill. I play professionally on halo pc and it does take stragedy. They are adding noobie things like that stupid bubble shield wtf? Only thing i want is the sniper and the halo 1 pistol. Im going to get halo 3 regardless but lets just hope it wont be noobie.

i personally preferred halo 2 over halo ce, if that makes me a noob then oh well, i suppose it's a good job i don't place too much weight in the opinions of bandwagon jumping spazwits on gamespot forums. hopefully halo 3 will continue the good work.

They even say at one point "starting you off with a duel wieldable gun completely changed the game, and we want to fix that." Your complaints seem unwarranted.

i dont know about the orignal statement.  The first games multiplayer was fun but extremely unbalanced.  The ghost dominated because it could freeze you as it shot and the tank with a turned around turret just destroyed bases.  Meanwhile the only weapons used were the pistol sniper and rocket occasionally.  I think halo 2 multiplayer was much more strategic because the weapons were a little better balanced.  Dual weilding could put up a fight against a shotgun.  The assault rifle was good at mid range but suffered up close.

The halo 3 multiplayer seems promising from what weve seen so far in my opionen.   It looks like they are keep the core ideas and just trying to add to it.  Like they say "why fix something that isnt broken", so they just give it some upgrades.  Also they keep talkin up the graphics and the alpha graphics look as good as the h2 ones so im pumped.  The whole x button deploys equipment (bubble sheild, mines, turrets) im a little skeptical about.  I just want to make sure they restrict this so it doesnt turn into ppl using mines everywhere and bubble sheilding flags and the such

Sorry for the long post but im really excited about the game

The first multiplayer wasn't the best but at least it took skill. I played on the pc mostly and I could kill tons of guys in flurry because I was good and skilled at it. Whereas with H2, the assistance of auto aim pretty much renders skill obselete.  And i'm glad Bungie are steering more towards Halo 1's gameplay rather than H2's "noob" like gameplay.
