Halo 3 Matchmaking Not Working?

There is no possible way for me to join any games. the start matchmaking button is greyed out. Help?

last night before my first few matches I had to wait for a very long time before I was able to enter into matchmaking. It was stuck at the lobby screen flashing something about "loading from xbox live..." Took about 20 min. before the matchmaking button was no longer greyed out. After about 3 matches it went right in and did not take so long.
