Halo 3 minus Halo 1 & 2

Ok, I am sure this has been brought up a few times before, however just looking for some advice....I recieved Halo 3 for Christmas, and I have never played any of the Halo's, ever! I am just wondering, should I play through the first two games, and then play Halo 3? Or can I just start off playing Halo 3 right now? I won't be lost, or missing something would I?

Play through 1 & 2 first. 3's story will be much more enjoyable, and the Covenant story will make much more sense, as will the story in general.

Also, the gameplay has evolved to a point where if you played 3 first, you'd be losing things going back.

well basically if you want to play the campaign you should play 1 and 2 but if you are playing online multi it wont matter.

Instead of playing 1 and 2 you can just look up a quick story explanation of 1 and 2 online somewhere. The story is not very complex so it wont take long.I recommend playing halo 1 and 2 just because they are awesome games

The storyline shown in the games might seem shallow, but if you really pay attention to what the characters say, particularly 343 Guilty Spark and Gravemind, you can pick up on a lot more stuff that's happening in the story. If you want the best experience, play through the first two. If you don't want to spend a lot of time/money on them, pick them up used and play through on easy. You'll have a good time, I swear it.
