okay so I just got Halo 3 a few hours ago. First I tried the offline, and that was fun (enemies are semi-intelligent, but they arent up there with the AI in FEAR or anything) and then I tried the online. The online was okay, but honestly my experience was hampered by the fact that the only game type I played was Slayer. Now, I have to tell you, I HATE DM games. I HATE them. I honestly believe that all DM games rely on lucky spawn kills. I was playing the Basic Training playlist, and now that I have a bit of a feel for the controls, the weapons, the powerups and such, I am wondering how I can find a TDM game. Well, anything team based would work for me whether its CTF, Zones, Assassination, w/e as long as its team based.

If you honestly believe that the only way you can win is by lucky spawn kills well then your wrong. I know you got the game very recently and thats probably the main issue. Give it time and learn the maps and learn some good basic halo skills and you will realize that regular slayer can be fun. I personaly like team based game more than every man for himself, mainly because i dont have to rely on myself as much and you cna count on others more if you know them.

Team Death Match is just in another playlist. Don't go to basic training, go to ranked or unranked.

I haven't played Halo 3 online in a while, but I do know there is a ranked playlist that specifically does Team Slayer, and I know there is one that specifically does objective-based Team Games, such as Oddball (kinda like "keep away") and CTF.

Little late to the party, but that's ok. I don't usually do the training lists, but if I remember right, I think those are mostly free for all. If you're looking for Team death match, play the Team Slayer playlists. Usually 4 vs. 4 or more. For larger teams 8 vs 8, play Big Team battle. Although Big Team Battle will mix in objective matches like CTF or plant the bomb. For CTF, Zones, etc, play Team Objective. Here's a Halo 3 playlist overview

I wasnt really specifically attacking Halo 3 with my "I hate DM games" thing, more about DM games in general. CSS, UT3, and CoD4 have all taught me that the largest factor in staying ahead in DM maps, is lucky spawning. Dont get me wrong, the firefights with the people in Slayer were intense and fun, and after a while, I learned how to strategically get kills, rather than just running around holding down the trigger. However, as a rule, I usually dont like DM games, and was just wondering how to access the team based ones.

its really not that hard, just spend five minutes going through all the menus and youll find everything.

Team Objective. That's what you're looking for. But in my Halo 3 multiplayer experience, there isn't too much spawn camping because there are so many spawn points all over a map. You are usually spawned close to your other teammates and usually away from the other team.

If you play around with Forge (the map editor) you can see all of these blue marks all over the maps. Those are the spawn points. In forge, you can actually move the spawn point around or add or remove others. But that aside, you can use it to see that there are a lot of spawn points all over every map.
