there is no easy way. the levelling system in halo is ridiculously basic - 1 exp for a win, that's it. its idiculous you should get a point for getting 10 kills or every ten matches aswell as just wins. team slayer for example u might kill 30 peopl and they team may just kill 5 people between them so you lose and get no exp. frustratingly simple.
once u get to a certain level say level 10 then it will take 2 more wins to get to 11 but one lose to go back to 9. so almost like a win is half a point and a loss half a point. so if your on 10 then win then loss you'll still be on ten. or if you r on 10 loss then win you'll still be on 10. i dont like halo much anyway - the online leveling system is just one bad thing about it.
To be honest, i find the skill advancement in Halo 3 to be a big letdown, as well as the game itself. The campaign was great, but the multiplayer, ranking up, it all grows old, so very quickly.
the multiplayer is ridiculous. i hate the way how its supposed to be a shooter but most kills are melee attacks. and the levelling system rewards players how just play alot rather than r good at the game.

Your so right, Gears > Halo. Me and all my friends stopped playing halo after we got luetenant and beat the game....went back to gearsafter about 2 and half weeks of Halo.
You just have to win a lot. Some people say you level up faster in team slayer if you get the most kills and MVP or something, but I don't really believe that. I'm 27 in team slayer and my friends are in the 40s...and they level up faster than I do for some reason. Doesn't matter if I get MVP.
The skill system somehow factors in other things than win or lose too. It also takes your style of gameplay in the equation. It's really difficult how it works I think, and not many people know how it works precisely. It's based on trueskill.
Oh, and I never understand why people like gears so much. I always wanted to join ranked games with friends in that game, because it should be about teamwork right? Multiplayer was basically an afterthought in gears. I don't know how much they've managed to fix.
There are many flaws in Halo 3 (should be fixed in patch), but its still agood game. A great game if/when the problems are fixed.
Halo 3 multiplayer rewards people not because of skill but of the amount you play the game. The amount of people with 350+ exp is ridiculous and shows there are many people who are hardcore geeks with out much of a life, and they are increasing each day. Even social is full of them, i can't seem to have a casual relaxed match anymore. Of course this is a problem that can't be fixed, unless they give ussome kind of customsearch engine.
gears of war multiplayer id one of the best and there is ways to play ranked with your friends... which is by looking the same matches (ex. time duration, map, and rounds) and join the same one.... very simple

The fact is although Halo's multiplayer is varied in terms of weaons, vehicles, modes, and all that, it still plaes in comparison to Gears. Almost a year after its release and Gears still remains one of the most played multiplayer game to date, simply because its more fun. And whats with that true skill crap in Halo, an 8 year old could play that game blind folded. Gears of War is where "True Skill" is at ;)

I have to agree that the halo 3 ranking system seriously needs improvment and I look forward to the first patch and can admit nothing annoys me more than when I get MVP but am on the loosing side and go down a level when I was the best player on field you know.
On the contrary, Gears was a brilliant Co-Op and Single player game but online is so boring and limited imo. Halo 3 has a much more vaired maps, game types, weapons, vehicles, customization and bonus' if you catch my drift.. I have to say I probly enjoyed the campaign of gears more in some ways but Halo 3's multi-player is well above the standard of gears despite its flaws.
And to those who go on about the the kids who play halo and being beat by themse. Your provided with a mute button for a reason and you can select to avoid the player afterwards.. and to put it simply if your sick of kids beating you learn to play better, Im not a kid and I dont find myself being harassed or beaten by kids. lol .. I will take the kids on halo opposed to the constant racism that is within the gears community.

The ranking system in Halo 3 is totally FUBAR, I'll give you that. And Gears IS an EXCELLENT game, I'll give you that as well. BUT to say that Halo 3's multiplayer is terrible because you can't get the little star since we don't all have endless amounts of time in our parents basement playing the game is no reason to hate it. It's fast, deep, and extremely fun. Don't be hating. Gears is much more of a strategy game. My problem with that is most the people you run into on Xbox live can't comprehend anything besides running and gunning.

Im sorry but you must have not played halo long enough to know that its probably the worst community on the 360. Its full of those losers who play 24/7 and respect nothing but the win. Hell i tell people good match whether i win or lose and 90% of the time whether its me winning or losing i get "YOU SUCK" or some other pitiful remark. Halo BLOWS. Simple game full of simple minded fools.
well, your skill is relative to other gamers so theoretically you may NEVER level up into the 40s. In halo 2 i got up into the mid 20s and hovered around there ever since. your going to hit a ceiling eventually. unless your VERY good your probably not gonna get into the 40s, unless your skilled up very early when no one was playing.
One think I dont like is that they tied ranks to your skill level. I think ranks should be purely based off your game experience... but thats just me ;).
bungie has also said that the skill system is NOT a ranking system, its a matchmaking system to keep similar skilled people in the same matches to make the games even and good. but, it is frustrating getting up to a point and hitting that ceiling, doesn't motivate me to play anymore thats for sure... i tend to go to the social playlists more often now - more fun modes with less jerks playing.
