I dont think they wanted to take any chances just in case it got higher then Mature. If you like gore play Gears of War.xXHackettXxi'm sorry, but i dont think that anything in the game made it worth an M rating as is. there's hardly any language, next to nothing with blood and gore, the only thing it seems to be rated M for is violence, and all games have violence in them these days.
So I bought Halo 3 and have been playing online. It's plenty fun I guess - though highly derivative of Quake 3. However, one thing I miss from Quake and Unreal is all the gore. Why doesn't the rocket launcher make arms and legs pop off with a mist of blood left behind? Where are the flying heads? I'm disappointed. OldFart1968
Its in Gears mate.
None of the Halo games really have much gore in them besides the odd blood spatter here and there...it's not something Halo is about.
If gore's your thing, go play Gears Of War, Manhunt, GTA or something.

Thats not gore, thats flourescent red paint. The blood was rediculously cell shaded in that game.
As for the gore in Halo 3, it isn't really needed. I mean, if you walk up to a dead marine and shoot him in the head, blood splurts everywhere. If you throw a grande into a group of Covies, and it kills them all, the blue crap they have for blood with splatter everywhere. The whole point is, they obviously weren't concentrating on making a gorey title, they never have. Actually, H3 has more gore in it than the other games. Not all games NEED gore to be good. If you are a cybernetically enhanced super soldier in titanium armor, chances are there won't be too much blood.
If you want gore, play the Darkness. When you shoot someone in the head, you know it. Blood, gore, and an actually bloody mush of a hole where the bullet went through.
