Hi Peoples, I just have a few questions about the possibility of downloading halo 4 directly from the xbox live marketplace then actually buying a a physical DVD. The convenience of just being able to hit a few buttons to switch games is highly attractive to me. 1) Will it be available, and how long will it take to be released online 2) Will it be substantially more expensive? Currently, the cheapest pre-order ive found (in aus) is $64 A rough comparison of the same situation with other games would do alright as well. Cheers

I wouldn't say it'd be available to download from the Marketplace for at least 3 or 4 months after the initial release.

And when it does launch, it'll come with a ludicrous pricetag, somewhere in the region of 70 Euro for the standard edition which is more than you'd pay at any bricks and mortar shop.

:( Its a pity, but guess we'll all just have to wait for the 720 when downloading games will become much more mainstream... and hopefully more competively priced. Looking at mw3 on marketplace, its currently at $60, though its at the end of its life cycle with black ops 2 just around the corner

Indeed... part of the draw for me for physical copies is the option to sell them on when I'm done, thus cutting the cost of my games.

Get the physical copy.. it's cheaper, the digital copy won't be out for months after release and it's nice to have the game data on disc so you can use that extra hdd space for demo's, dlc or something else.

DD being competitively priced is a dream, a fantasy.

These companies take advantage of kids wanting their game first and are willing to pay top dollar (usually parents pay anyways, so there is no value to them), and forget about how they can't sell their DD copies used.

It's only a great deal when sales come along.

Exactly. You can trade it, you can sell it, you can use it in another 360 with ease without the hassle of being online....it's amazing how many benefits these companies expect us to throw out the door just so we can DL a game at full price at home using our storage (Disc, case, instructions not provided).

Usually digital versions of games are the same price as the retail version, the game won't be available to download at launch, maybe after launch but that's it.

The current ridiculous prices have nothing to do with wether or not downloading on consoles is mainstream, its because MS dont have a clue how to price and enough people are stupid enough to pay £50 for a downloadable version of a game that you can buy for £20-£30 on disc that MS wont bring the prices down any time soon unless people start boycotting it. They probably give all sorts of rubbish reasons but if the likes of steam can price competitively for pc then so can MS.
