After scouring the net for answers apparently no one else has really noticed this, but it has been bothering me since completing the game. Sarah Palmer makes a comment early in the game about Chief's height (the famous "I thought you'd be taller" semi snub or w/e). It is clear in that scene that Chief is about a half a head taller than Sarah, with her head coming to his shoulder armor. Then, in the final cutscene when Chief is walking all solemnly towards the bay to remove his armor, he passes by Sarah again, and he is significantly taller than her. So much so that this is probably what people are actually staring at him for in the scene. He has grown at least 6 inches in a few days time. I assume this is to do with the genetic unlocking that the Librarian did, but my digging for info has hit a dead end. Thoughts or ideas?

I hadnt actually thought about it (dude you need to find other things to do). In the first scene they're standing a little distance from each other, in the last one he gets right next to her. Its just a perspective change. He doesn't grow taller.

Same thing with the brutes, one minute they are shorter than chief, then the next they are way bigger than him....Its just a game, i let it pass.

I just don't think it something that they did by accident. Sarah calls him out on his size, then he is much taller. There is something there...

Sarah was just being a wise ass calling out chief on his size. I thought that part's intentions was to show how more humane (or normal) they are compared to the spartan II's. You remember the part where they say the Spartan II's social behaviors aren't normal? It's in the first cutscene.

I just don't buy the coincidence. I get the human side and all, but they wouldn't change the models without reason. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9t66H3MUuUs&feature=relmfu 6:42 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcVh28uEDm4&feature=related 13:37 You cannot look at that and say there isn't a significant difference. They wouldn't have changed the models without a reason.

Why does it matter? I noticed, but I don't really care. There are more pressing issues with the canon than a brief misrepresentation of the Master Chief's height.

I honestly just think it's a mistake on their behalf. Just a simple continuity goof. Don't read so much into it man.

In one of the earlier games, they mentioned him being 7 ft tall, FWIW.

I'd be ok with a simple continuity issue if it weren't computer rendered. The chief should be the same throughout. So they changed it. It's got something to do with advancing the genetics (the librarian mentions that she slowed humans evolution and Halsey mentions it as well when talking about the spartans). I know Chief is really tall (7 ft, I got that much) but that stuck out to me as something else that happened because of the librarian. It isn't just immunity to the composer, Chief is larger physically as well. I guess I'm trying to piece together clues as to what the unlock actually did.

I doubt it's something too deep....don't think so much.

Me and a few friends had a joke about that scene with Palmer and Chief last night. Palmer:"I thought you'd be taller".Chief:"I thought you'd have a sandwich".

Well,, it looks like there is some difference in design choice between the game and cgi scenes. It has happened with games now and before too. I won't rule your opinion out, but I severely doubt it. We will see in the later Halo games.

Nah from what i read from wikia, the librarian genetic "unlocking" didnt change his physical attributes. It only made him invulnerable to the "composer". But she did say she hid few more genetic goodies in him. Apparantly, the librarian created the spartans in an indirect way...

It also bothers me because in halo wikia, master chief is only a inch taller than sarah palmer but in the cg cutscene he is humongous. I mean dont get me wrong, I would rather have master chief much taller than palmer, but the inconsistency irks me...

It also says that he's at least five inches taller when fully suited up. Throw in that she never wears her helmet. The differences are probably more minor in gameplay because the Spartan models are close to if not the same size fore gameplay consistency. You play as a Spartan IV in multiplayer. Is it really cost effective to create an entirely new base model and hud?

One is an in-game cut-scene, and the other is done entirely in CG. You use a different 3D model for in-game and CG...and they're (most likely) created by different departments, so there's a good possibility of continuity errors.
