They are implementing a 1-50 ranking system post launch. They evidently wanted to gather enough data for a couple of months to decide how best to do it, map rotations, etc

I'm still a little confused as to how the ranks go, so far it seems a little similar to Reach's ranks, but different too. It seems like it starts from 1 and goes on until who knows what, and you level up from points earned in matches.

If it was based on individual skill, then good. If you do good, you should rank up, regardless of how your team did!
The highest level is 50, and then after 50 you pick what specialization you want to be. And after you rank to level 10 on your specialization, you get to pick another special
