Legendary on Reach solo is no fun at all. Best tips is to use your partners as meat shields. Let them do as much of the fighting as possible. Also you will want to try to run past things hoping you will get a checkpoint. Throw a grenade and run like hell. Another thing is guarding choke points such as stairs or doorways. Its possible to blow something away that walks right into your crosshairs cause your aiming directly where you know they will come. Also try to fire from as far away as possible. You never going to be able to have a decent gun fight on this difficulty so you got to play as cheap as possible or will never work.
Advance slowly, let AI squad mates take point, always find cover to recharge your shields and try to maintain distance. Use a charged plasma pistol and then headshots from a DMR, magnum, etc... on elites. Weapon combinations are key.
There aren't any easy ways about it. You need to take your time and plan your weapons usage.
I would just play it with a ton of friends who are good at Halo games, cause playing it alone isn't fun.
I'm so glad you said that, I was feeling bad about using those same tactics.Legendary on Reach solo is no fun at all. Best tips is to use your partners as meat shields. Take your time. Thats the best advice anyone can give.
-Stick with medium and long range weapons because Elites will destroy in close quarters.
-The DMR is your friend. Get headshots as much as possible.
-Plasma Pistol is good too in conjunction with other weapons but I didn't find it as useful in Legendary as others have.
If you're going solo, the plasma pistol combined with any headshot weapon, pistol, DMR, needle rifle, etc. don't rush it but take your time.
Most of it's been said, but I really just wanted to stress to go slow. It may seem like you're wasting time, but in the long run, it's going to take you fewer attempts to complete the missions if you take your time and don't rush through them. Otherwise, just read all of the above posts and get the other good tips.
As with equipment in Halo 3, armor abilities are crucial to your success and/or not running home crying to your mother about how difficult it it. This may or may not be personal experience.

Just so I understand correctly you don't actually beat Halo Reach because in the final mission "Lone Wolf"
Your charactor is forced to fight until he dies so he can serve an inspiration for those who go on to win the war against the Covenant
Aint that the truth and some times it's pretty tough on the normal setting too
You definitely have to use some strategy during legendary. I tend to try to take all the Grunts and other little guys before I try tackling an Elite. Then when attacking them, you definitely have to shoot it in the head or assassinate it or else you're screwed. Most of all, make sure you don't rush, if you try to kill all the enemies quickly, you will probably die.
Why don't you like it solo? I found it a lot more challenging but still possible. The only time I had difficulties was in the end of the last level.
OT. Do not use the assault rifle!! When your team is battling try to sneak behind the enemies to a good spot. But the most important part is to take it slow.
So i take it the ones giving me advice have beaten it solo Right ??

I have beaten it on Legendary and agree with everyone thats made a comment. I would also like to add that using the equipment works very well, jet packs ivisibility. shields. Time and long range weapons are your friend. Im not bragging but this was the first Halo game I have beaten on Legendary and did not think its was that hard. Compared to the others any way
Pick up a plasma pistol. Hit an elite with a charged up shot to take out their shields then finish them off with a headshot (DMR or Pistol) or if you're close enough, gun him down with the assault rifle.DJ_Magneto
this FTW
game wasnt as hard as i suspected. take ur time and dont be afraid to restart whole levels to get a different run through. also dont be afraid to play through again and again on lower settings. tis fun and gives u more credits to spend on armour. have fun to. play with friends on lower levels to get used to enemy placements and behaviour. GROW A SET OF BALLS AND MELEE OFTEN( oe dont be afraid to get close).
Reach isn't as tough as old school FPS considering you have unlimited health, the only thing you truly need to do is take your time. It's fun playing on Normal and being an epic super soldier but on Legendary you're actually vulnerable. Here's some advice.
- Always kill the lesser enemies first. Elites are a bigger threat, sure, but Grunts and Jackals go down in one well placed DMR shot and the less that's shooting at you the easier it is to kill Elites one on one.
- Know your environment and push your limits. If you have two rounds left in your sniper rifle don't abandon it immediately for that fully loaded DMR sitting there. Use the rounds and then go back and get the DMR. Do the same thing with the health. If you have one or two boxes missing don't rush to fix your health, wait to get it when you're lower to maximize possible health you can have in a single level.
- Know your weapons and tricks. Brutes will still idiotically melee you when you're close and, as they have been since Halo 2, are slow and easy to dodge letting you get in close and melee them in the back. It isn't as fail proof pathetic like it was in ODST, but when fighting Brutes it's a good tactic to remember to conserve ammunition. A lot of people will tell you not to use the shotgun. No, most enemies will still die with a single shotgun blast followed by a quick snap melee. High tier Elites and Brutes are the only things that can't, and if you get quick enough with this tactic it clears a room surprisingly quick. Just make sure the reticule completely encompasses the enemy and the shotgun remains golden. Still, the best combo is plasma pistol mixed with DMR/Magnum, hands down.
- Cover flanks and force your enemy to move. Don't allow the enemy to charge you guns blazing in your direction. Throw a plasma grenade, for example, at an incoming enemy and they'll be forced to dodge or die, while they're dodging shoot them. It's as simple as that. Don't corner yourself, use cover, and know your surroundings. It's really not that tough if you're patient.
