Halo Wars Demo Impressions? I vote AWESOME!

I'm surprised to say this, but after playing the Halo Wars demo, I feel this game will be an 8.0-8.5 title, and REALLY a good game. The campaign mode was fun, it managed to encorporate a lot of the best RTS features into a console game, the cut scenes were amazingly animated and fluid, it tells a story, the enemy AI is good *it runs for cover for example, or swarms weaker units*, and it's...FUN to play!

Anyone else shocked and pleasently surprised by the demo?

I played it and it was ok i had fun its a pretty shallow rts coming from someone whos played starcraft and warcraft3 for years now but i do give it alot of credit as far as rts's go the style of this game is brilliant it works perfectly for a console

I think it's terrible and only players that dont know what a good rts is like, are going to be the players that like Halo Wars.

Here are the controls for the curious:

[spoiler] A: selects units

X: moves selected units

B: cancels orders

Y: executes leader powers or alternate abilities for normal units

RB: calls all onscreen units to the fight

LB: calls all units available

Up on the d-pad select special abilities such as the MAC gun

Right on the D-pad will instantly send you to any part of the map that you are being attacked at, and if there are multiple spots then you can cycle through them

Left on the D-pad will send you instantly to your base, or if you have multiple bases (deployed Elephants count as a base) then you can use left to cycle through them.

Down on the D-pad will allow you to cycle through all unit groups.

After pressing either RB or LB to call all units or just local untis you will notice that every unit will be neatly catagorized on the bottom of the screen. Then you can press the right trigger to cycle thorugh them, stop on the untit type you want and you now have control that unit type. They stay catagorized on the bottom of the screen until you hit the B button.

This make seperating unit and planning an effective attack very easy. [/spoiler]

halo wars looks like crap, i dont get why they are trying to tget into a market where RTS have a strongly defined fanbase. this game looks just like Command & Conquer for xbox360 but if any of you who want are ACTUALLY RTS fans, you should know that these games are ment for the PC with a MOUSE where you can play 100x better.

also, go play warcraft 3 or starcraft. such better RTS than this crap, halo wars will be the same exact gameplay as command & conquer, but it will not outdo these games. even LotR is probably a better RTS just cuz its from the people who made CnC

comand and conquer:red alert 3 is pretty good

this game is tight probly an 8.5 or a 9

im gonna buy it for sure and for everyone that says rts on pc is better this is pretty damn close to that.

the story is great and cutscenes are amazing. demo leaves u wanting more lol. and online battles are gonna be fun

and sending out a crapload of marines and like 10 warthogs to take out the covenant is always fun haha :)

Thanks for the info, my 360 is down at the moment, but ill probably buy this game once its out and my 360 is fixed.

Its made by Ensemble Studios which made some of my fav games ever (Age Of Mythology and Age Of Empires where amazing series).

Although i have HATED every RTS game ive bought on a console. Hope this one changes the RTS downfall on consoles.
