I downloaded the Halo Wars demo and played through it and must say I am a bit dissapointed. The story line looks really good and I think the controls will work out alright, but I am not impressed by the graphics. It kinda reminds me of the Starcraft and Comand & Conquer ports on to the N64. I found it hard to distinguish between the convenant elites and grunts, they are just undefined purple blobs (mind you I am not playing on full 1080i, though so my comment on the clarity and definition of units might be off because of that). I have been playing TC's End War and think that the graphics in that game are much better, and was hoping that Halo Wars' graphics would be on par. I just had some high hopes for this game and perhaps because of that I am a bit let down. What do you guys think of the demo?

i like the whole base thing as that was always hard in CnC. trying to manage all your buildings. its done just like Battle For middle earth. but at the end of the day there is no strategy in it. or from what i have seen. its all about getting the best units as fast as possible and getting them altogether to attack a unit/building.

I went in not liking RTS', and this game was just as boring. I just can't get into that type of game.

But the CGI cutscene in the beginning? Very well done.

Believe it or not, I don't have live... so I was wondering if there's a way to download and burn a dvd off of the xbox site, like there is for the updates... I couldn't find a download. Anyone want to help? I really want to play the FEAR 2 demo (which is out, right?). Thanks in advance.

I thought it was adverage compared to other RTS games and I was dissapointed with how many units you could control on the battlefield. The controls and graphics were nice but the only thing I could see me to drive me forward is the story, which is very interesting. The gameplay overall was a little too adverage too me but it would appeal to people who are new to RTS. A little more depth is what I wanted, espcially with base building.

I've seen disc for some xbox demos but i don't think Halo Wars is one. FEAR demo is out.

I was expecting this game to be a standard RTS game with a Halo look. That is what it is, therefore i am happy. I'm actually glad it's going to be more simplistic because although I love C&C:RA3 the huge number of ways to get around actually fighting (many forms of unit rushing and then Drone rushing, engineer rushing, sneaking heros into bases, etc) takes away from the experiance after awhile because there no real unit fighting.

What he said...

Although the controls worked well, i'd still prefer a pc version, and even then, i'd just download it... just to punish ensemble for squeezing the halo series a little more

dude thats so wrong, how did ensemble squeeze it? If anything its MS is squeezing the franchise, getting ensemble and having them make halo wars, then shut the studio down? Regardless back on topic Halo Wars is awesome

First time I've played an RTS sine back in the Starcraft days and thats exactly what it was. I was fine with the controls after I learned them and thought it was fun. I'll get it because a bunch of my friends will and 3 vs 3 online will be pretty sick I think.

I love the game. I'm a hardcore RTS nut and as such I prefer playing my RTS games on the PC. But this games playes perfect for a console RTS. I was very impressed with what I played and I'm looking forward to the game.

I've been playing RTS games my entire life PC or otherwise. And I don't see why people are harshing this game so much. The controls are great, the graphics are great and it's set in the Halo verse. For those that bash this as milking the Halo franchise. Or a dis to Halo. Know this, Halo was originaly planned to be an RTS. This is Halo in it's pureist form. The only bad thing happening here is that Ensemble is being shut down after this. Maybe if it sells well enough, Bungie could make the sequel. For those that complain about the base building, You will have the ability to build micro-bases and outposts as well as the primary build plots. Alas, people are judging the game by the demo. It's only natural that the unit variety and population limit is low in a "TRIAL" version of the game...

Well, as far as RTS's go, i was'nt impressed with it at all. Seems really simple and repetetive. I'd much rather play Warcraft3 or starcraft on my pc. And for the above post, it will NEVER come to pc's or any other console.

it is a pretty simplified RTS games that works extremely well on the xbox. Its probobaly one of the best RTS games on the console games. The problem is, there are probobaly much better RTS's on the PC.

Another thing I like about the game is the fact that you dont need to constantly find new resources to get, as you always have a nice supply flow.

I still have yet to play it but based on the other console RTS games and after playing Sins of a Solar Empire which might be the best RTS of all time I have low expectations.

I have been playing TC's End War and think that the graphics in that game are much better, and was hoping that Halo Wars' graphics would be on par.bibbalo

Wow. Something must be wrong to have caused you to say this about Halo Wars' graphics, because I thought they were just fine. I haven't played Tom Clancey's End War, but it must be the best looking game made for the current console generation to make you think Halo Wars looks like an N64 game. You clearly have an HD tv because you said you aren't playing at full 1080i, so I have to ask: are you using a componet av cable and how small is your tv? Because not having your xbox set at 1080i doesn't matter, games are made to be played on a tv with 720p resolution. Setting the resolution any higher will just give you more color, it can't force the game to look any better than it was made to look (which, in this case, isn't bad).

But if I'm out of line here and your xbox is hooked up to a 30-40+ inch tv with an HDMI cable, and you still think Halo Wars looks like an N64 game, then you may be sitting way too close to the screen or you are a very picky person.

i thought the demo was sick and the more i play it, the more i like it. very well balanced by ensemble and although i would maybe like a bit more comlplexity (with the bases/building), things like playing the other heroes and 3vs.3 live matches make up for it

I wasn't expecting much so I found it to be a pretty good game for what it was.

Probably a rental for me. (not a HUGE Halo fan)

As someone who has only played Battle for Middle Earth 2 and a few demos on the 360 (as far as RTS's go), I really liked it. I think Halo Wars is really designed for people who are new to RTS games and particularly for multi-player. Also, I think the reason you can't tell the difference between units is because Ensemble went for a Purple vs. Green system making it difficult to distinguish infantry units--not because of lack of detail.

I like the demo. No, the gameplay is not ground breaking, there is not much strategy involved. You produce units fast and zerg the enemy, but it is fun, and it works on the console. I cant wait.

its a good couch rts and its nice and simple to pick up and play. 3v3 battles online will be sweet with friends.
