must of you probably already saw this.. but here it goes anyway:

http://www.gamestats.com/objects/857/857436/articles.html

i have disagreed with gamespot numerous times before but this time they seem to be alone, most reviews range from 8.5 to 9.0, until you see gamespot's of course, a 6.5

i usually don't check other websites for reviews but few times have i seen such a difference between gamespot and the other websites. i wasn't expecting much form halo wars so i was ready to take gamespots 6.5 as what the game actually deserved, but i have changed my mind now.

Anyone else feel the reviewer was a bit unfair? i mean he only describes two flaws in the review and one of them is that the game is too shallow in comparison to other rts. that doens'tany sense considering that the audience for halo wars was not one who had played rts games before- it was supposed to be the introduction to the rts genre to halo fans, however the reviewer took it as a flaw. Just feel like he was not the right guy to review the game, he made a review for the wrong audience, halo wars was not meant for experienced pc gamers but for xbox and halo fans who were being introduced to a new genre.

anyone else feeling the same way?

Well after reading the review on here and at IGN I must say that the review (on Gamespot) was a little harsh/low, but you have to remember that it is just one person's opinion.

gamespot lost a lot of merit from me after this review. I will buy this game. GS needs to learn to not be so narrow minded and understand that not all games follow the same formulas as others in the same genre.

It's odd how people refer to GS as a whole entity. It's made up of hundreds of reviewers, one shoddy one doesn't make the whole system bad.

GS is a terrible site for reviews by itself. I use an avg score from IGN, GS, and 1up; before buying a game.

Yeah I usually agree more with IGN when it comes to reviews. Gamespot gives good games bad scores and average games good scores.

Yeah...ive played all of them since my roomate is a big RTS fan from consoles to pc to handheld...you name it hes got it. However when we tried Halo Wars demo it just felt better than the rest...hopefully the retail game will deliver just like how unexpectedly good the demo was.

1. I very rarely ever agree with Gamespot's ratings.

2. I normally agree with IGN's reviews more.

3. I barely ever even consider what reviewers say and base it on my own judgements.

4. I played the demo and thought it was great i predicted it was around a low 8.

I didn't like Halo Wars one bit, but 6.5 does seem harsh. However, there isn't just one Gamespot reviewer, remember, it is just that one guys opinion :) If you played the demo and enjoyed it, go and buy it, end of. Generally I only refer to reviews if I am indifferent about a game or want to know more about it so in that respect I can see how some could view this score as misleading.

Gamespots reviews are something I dont pay much attention to any more.I come here for the forums and a union Im in.Alot of good games on all systems get really low scores here. From my own personal experience with alot of these games, gamespots reviews are something I can not use in helping to make a purchase decision any more,If I did there would have been alot of excellent games I would have missed out on,and this is something I see alot of here now from all the different system owners.Check out other sites for reviews that reflect what alot of other gamers think of these games.Find a site that consistently scores games close to what you would score them, when you find that site you know you have found reviewers that shares similar likes and dislikes to yourself.Gamespot is definatly not the place to go for alot of gamers to make purchasing decisions.

halo wars deserves more than a 6.5!!!saadi

so you want gamespot to give any halo game a 9+.. this game is a bad 360 exclusive "sadly"

if this game got a 6.5 is bad and that's all

leave GS alone, they're the best review source

I agree, it seems the game was punish for not being overly complicated as some other rts games, but how will that work ona console with a controller if it was more involving? You have to make a simple RTS on a console, RTS's like Supreme Commander, Sins of Solar ect... simple won't work on a controller.

No they're not! They've gone downhill since '05. Metacritic has halo wars at an average score of 83. 33 reviews so far and GS has scored this game the lowest. can you explain that?

On the adverage Halo Wars has a 83 out of 100 and being GS is the only review site that gave this a very negative score out of all 33 sites can you really say they're really reliable now these days.

Now it could be just me, but it seems that the UK reviews of this game have tended to be more negative so far than the US reviews. Seeing as how this was a gamespot UK review, maybe that has a bit to do with the games low score. Maybe the UK has a different taste in regards to games, and RTS's especially

I am undecided about Halo Wars; may end up not buying the game.

But Gamespots review will not influence my decision. They have gone downhill ever since Greg Kasavan left. And evev before Greg left, he was one of only a few reviewers who's opinion I trusted, and most if not all of that group are gone now as well. It seems like these days that the only games that get a good (7.5 +) scores from GS are FPS. I don't think that GS has given a fair and honest review of ANY game in years.

From what i have seen/played, Halo Wars is a solid 8/10 game. Its not really anything special, but its a solid console RTS outing. I would be a bit skeptical of reviews above 9/10, or below 7/10. GameSpots 6.5 pushes it a bit, but its still within a reasonable range.

The main problem I have with that review is that the compare it to PC RTS. Definately one of the harshest reviews from Gamespot.

this is why they shouldn't put RTS games on consoles, they always suck.

RTSs are made for the PC. no matter how much someone wishes, it usually ends up a flop.

I love how when Halo enters the picture a game can be simple, come with very little content, be a downgrade compard to others in a genre, and still get so many people to back it up saying its going to be great when they havent played it but anything else and the game should have been worked on longer to make it better. Halo Wars deserves to be compared to pc rts' because its an rts. It's going to peak the interest in any rts GAMER, so why should the review only cater to 360 owners. Everyone is so pissy with the RE5 controls saying they should have been more like Dead Space and yet Halo Wars doesnt need to be like other good rts' cause its halo. Red Alert made the transision just fine from pc to console so why couldnt they make Halo Wars just like Red Alert?

GAMESPOT DID NOT GIVE HALO WARS A 6.5. ONE PERSON, WHO JUST SO HAPPENS TO BE PART OF GAMESPOT'S REVIEW TEAM, GAVE HALO WARS A 6.5. Stop acting like GameSpot is one gigantic man who hates Halo. GameSpot is made up of more than one damn employee. Not all of them think the same, not all of them review the same, not all of them enjoy the same things. The sooner you get this through your heads, the better.

Red Alert 3 (360) got a metacritic score of 77 with 35 reviews.

Halo Wars got a metacrtic score of 83 with 33 reviews. (GS has given the lowest score so far)

You make about as much sense as Gamespot..

All those reviews give the same flaws as one another. The only thing giving it high praises in the Halo name. Red Alert's demo alone plays better and has more depth than the HW demo. Thats not even an opinion either, it's just straight forward fact. And metacritic's reviews should be taken with a grain of salt just like any other places. I've seen hundreds of reviews there over multiple media type there that completely contradict the publics and the professional opinions of those who actually reviewed them. So if i make as much sense as GS then good, at least i have an opinion that isnt quieted because of others objections and M$ money. If any other rts came out with as much shallow gameplay, limited content, and simple gameplay it would be crushed by reviewers. Dont be a sheep and try looking past your own narrow view scape. To think this game is that amazing compared to others that have done it better is nothing short of a complete degrade in our expectations for games these days. So next time you want to role your eyes at someone make sure you dont use someone elses voice. It's not that scary to use your own once in a while you know

Imo games should be reviewed compared to their own genre and lets face it as an rts halo wars doesn't make the grade. Not to say it isn't worthy of of praise as it did have a good control scheme and it was fun and for a console rts that's pretty impressive but that doesn't make it a good rts in general. I think people would like exceptions made because its a console rts and maybe because its halo but I have more respect for gamespot for not doing that...well its a start anyway.
