Most if not all those spartans in that unit seem to be Startan IIIs. Regardless I don't really mind. You don't know the fate of these particular spartans yet or their mission so it's not like the game's going to be a direct transcript of the novel or anything.vashkey
the only one i could see being a spartan 3 is the one with a skull on his helmet, the other ones are to big and the armors wrong for spartan 3's

All surviving spartan II aside from Gray team were at the battle of Reach and according to the book all of them were using the same MJOLNIR Mark V armor that you saw the Master Chief wearing in Halo: Combat Evolved. Looked to me none of those Spartan were using the same armor in that trailer. A few seem they might be spartain IIs, specifically the guy that carries the heavy weapon. But I'm betting most of them are Spartan IIIs. It's pretty much confirmed that the "Lone Wolf" is a Spartan III since they reference how he suvived a Spartan III operation in the Trailer. The guy with the EVA helmet is probably a Spartan III as well, he looks to be a Hell Spartan which is a special Spartan III unit.[QUOTE="SEANSEXYUNDIES"][QUOTE="vashkey"]Most if not all those spartans in that unit seem to be Startan IIIs. It means that the Game is telling a different story than the book. Its something we don't know about yet.

I'm suprised they havent published a revised version of those yet. I mean the idea that the elites had never been a mainstay of the armed forces before reach or that the hunters only popped up when the book said they did doesnt quite corralate ... I mean what are we meant to beleive that the entire ground war was thought by grunts and jackals? :S doesnt work for me
But...Bungie has announced that the game doesn't follow the Novel. At all...other than Reach gets glassed, but we knew that anyways. So how do you know we all die? In fact...you don't.
("Spartans never die Goerge. Their just missing in action." When I heard the line I peed myself) .YoungSinatra25its just a quote from a character i dont think its supposed to be taken as fact, also through the halo games they only suggest that the master chief is the last remaing spartan and again not stated as fact. even if you do die at the end of reach ( which we also wont know as fact ) i will still get even if its the same old stuff. all i want from the game is the use of all 7 gig dvd and not the paltry lazy 3.5g they used for odst. in other words longer campaign and better graphics.

Because you see in alot of Halo media set beofre the battle of Reach hunters and Elites fighting. Even Brutes now.[QUOTE="vashkey"][QUOTE="SEANSEXYUNDIES"] ^ this, the games and the books don't seem to follow each other very much, like in halo 2 when master cheif first runs into the brute in the game and it's percieved that this is the first time that he has experence a brute but in fact in the first strike one of his team mates is kill by one with a brute shot. penpusher
I'm not sure how they'd do a revised version. They'd need to clear up and rewrite parts of it. But if they did that all those who actually care and bought the originals would feel jipped since they wouldn't have the proper versions of the book and would have to go out and essentially rebuy it if they want the right version.
Urggh... It's not that it ignores the novel, it's that it tells a different story in the same time frame.But...Bungie has announced that the game doesn't follow the Novel. At all...other than Reach gets glassed, but we knew that anyways. So how do you know we all die? In fact...you don't.

First off if you dont know the story of Reach... leave. Played the games read the books (books weren't well written IMO) so I know the lure. Whats getting me is if you dont play as Master Chief, YOUR GONNA DIE!!! ("Spartans never die Goerge. Their just missing in action." When I heard the line I peed myself) The books, they tell of a select few Spartans surviving Reach which never ties in with the games which always disappointed me. What do you guys think of Bungies decision to do the prequel when you know the sad inevitable truth?...YoungSinatra25
Linda (I think it was her) didn't die. She got her arm blown off but she's still alive - Master Chief finds out she's in cryo in First Strike... and I think the books are VERY well written... at least the ones by Eric Nyland... and Joe Staten's one.

I liked Eric Nylund's but man he needs better spell checkers.[QUOTE="YoungSinatra25"]First off if you dont know the story of Reach... leave. true there is that but all things considered the halo cannon is starting to get really messy, at somepoint along the line some form of clean up and organisation is going to have to take place before we end up with star trek style confusion where you have to use ya imagination to fit the extra fiction together with the main stories lolIt takes place during the same events, I'm sure there will be some homage to the book, and other events. It just isn't a direct adaptation of the book.But...Bungie has announced that the game doesn't follow the Novel. At all...other than Reach gets glassed, but we knew that anyways. If you haven't read all the novels, please leave xP.
There's a very good chance they manage to escape. They have from the start of the battle til the first few sections in First Strike to do their thing. The planet doesn't explode or anything... until much, much later if I remember correctly.
I just hope they're not treading on any established Halo Cannon though. They've been generally pretty good with it, with maybe minor holes here and there (and Halo Wars).
Halo Wars didn't actually do anything bad. At worst it leaves the three spartans fates in question. If you haven't read all the novels, please leave xP.

I'm not stuck on the dying part as much as the clash between fiction and the game. (I like when the hero dies; 300, Cowboy Bebob, Scarface, etc) Its if we dont die how to explain it. Where were other Spartans during Halo 2 & 3"? And even things from Halo legends plus why were there only Brutes in ODST... Its like ever time they give us more lure the things we already know become inconsistent and irrelevant... I can nit pick everything (like the Brutes first apperance) but it'd just be a rant/wall of text. The Star Wars/ Star Trek references are good examples...YoungSinatra25-shrug- the other spartans are likely dead, lets face it thats the most likely conclusion, either that or prisoners of war (they'd be valuable). And there were only brutes in ODST because the game starts playing about the point where the brutes were told to begin exterminating the elites...one of bucks sections gave a massive hint towards this. And to those still talking as if its like some kind of alternate story line its not, it doesnt follow the books in that its not recreating the events in halo reach, it runs parallel with it telling a different story...
