hard drive trouble - help please

got a second hand hard drive. connected it via 'hard drive transfer cable'. (probably stupidly) deleted all info - just selected drive in system settings>storage. now the xbox doesnt know drive is there. when connected i can hear (invisable) drive whirring.

advice please!!!

did i delete software or something? can i DL something to make it be a xbox harddrive again?
