my xbox live account is always gold, so i rarely buy 360 games actually. 9 in the last year and a half, and 3 of them are single player only. if you dont have xbox live yet, make an account, you get a month free for the first 3 accounts on any console. also, if you can spare a few bucks, rent a game. and i think a few 360 games can be bought for $10 used.

If I want to buy a new game but have no money I would just play some of my old games online, it seems to pass the time more compared to playing offline. I dont know how many hours I lost to playing Team-Fortress 2.

playing tf2? do people still do that? its a good game, but when if came out, it was too laggy so pretty much everyone quit. its easier to find a game in graw for me, and thats a 2 year old game. the lag has been patched already, but it still comes back from time to time.

my xbox live account is gold and i have every hit game up until dec 2007. I really just want a new game, but since we are so broke my wife won't even let me rent a game. I'm thinking of selling all my paint ball equipment, which is worth about a grand, to hold me over for the year, but, i have a felling if i do that my wife will want to usee the money for bills and i'll get 2 games out of the whole deal, so 1000 bucks for two games isn't worth it lol

i guess on the bright side if i'm forced to wait 6 months for the games i want now i'll be able to get them for like 20 or 30 bucks and if i can't keep the delay game up my game habbits will become less expensive.

put is like this, i joined the national guard with a 20,000 dollar sign up bonus and i was supposed to graduate on april 25 with my cash and new funds to get to school, and a better chance at getting jobs as well as a good chance to go to iraq and make a hundred grand in one year. after four months of training down to the last 5 days a old medical condition arised preventing me from completeing AIT which then casue me to be hoptilzed and later discharged from the military on May 1 2008. Now all my plans have been destroyed and i have had to file for well-fair and am currently looking for a dam retail job and looking into fedreal loans or government grants for school so i'm all screwed up. So, i'm very broke and am about 10,000 bucks in debt so i would have have been out of debt and no, no job. I know i have more important things to think about like supporting my family in this crisis, but after i have done every thing i could do, at the mean time i would like to play some new games to drowend out my sorrows for awhile

wow, sorry dude thats gotta suck. hope everything works out for you. anyways i suggest ebaying your games, starting with the ones you dont like. use the ebaying $ to get a subscription to gamefly. since you apparently dont want your paintball stuff as much, sell the paintball equipment anyways, to get you out of debt, buying it again will be easier when your not in debt. just basicall sell/ebay non essential stuff to get you out of debt. it might be a bit depressing to just sell your stuff, but it will feel so good once your caught up with your bills.

I would suggest saving cash and only purchase if it's not your last $65. I would also download a bunch of demos or just play multiplayer until you can afford more. You can always pull out your friend (Visa/Mastercard/AMEX) to help you out until the next billing cycle!

Well, it seems you have a PC and Internet access. Why don't you focus on PC gaming for the time being? The games tend to be larger and last longer and the prices drop extremely fast. For instance, you can get Neverwinter Nights 1 and all of its expansions for a very cheap price and that provides 100+ hours of gaming. For some reason the console gaming systems drive people to get new games, and if you have money it's not really a problem. I can afford to buy new games, but I still like to look for a discount. I usually wait around 6 months after release, but the game will still be around $30-40 in many cases and if it was a successful game, the price is higher.

Secondly, if you have an XBox Live account, you can download and play every demo of arcade and released games. I've found this to be a useful time sink. The Operation Darkness demo lasts over 40 minutes and I haven't beat it yet after two tries.

Lastly, you may want to get a part-time job in the interim. I've got a friend of mine that has delivered pizzas for a living for the past 18 years and he does all right. I wouldn't recommend doing it that long but it'll help with your money and game problems and it pays better than working behind the counter in fast food and grocery stores. Also, being a waiter pays better through tips. I know people who have made a living doing that also.

omfg, are you completely brain dead? you'd rather blow money on videogames than pay your bills? **** I'm in the military and i earn enough money where i can buy videogames every other week, but christ, I pay my frickin bills first. And you obviously shouldn't be married if your going to talk about your wife like that, at least she has her head screwed on. And before you decided to bash me and tell me I don't know what it's like, I'm married, with 2 kids and one due any day and even then, I still have money to buy a few videogames. And **** your obviously ungrateful. you'll only get two games?!?! Oh no!! whatever will you do?!?! **** grow up two games is better than having to pay people to go away when your behind on your bills. And I'm talking from experience here. I went for two years not being able to buy **** I was broke when all three systems (360, Wii, PS3) came out and all i had was a PSOne with FF7, 8 and 9 to pass the time (which didn't bother me one bit cause it's FF ;) ) and now since Im in the military I have a nice HDTV, a 360 and a Wii and a decent selection of games for them both.

Now you tell me after reading that, is your situation so bad?

well yeah my situation is pretty bad, but i think you missed the whole thesis in this post, i was curious what people do when they hit a dry spell and can't buy games. Insofar as being brain dead i don't see how you could come to that conclusion when I am and already stated i'm trying to correct this situation but when i have free time i simply would like to play some new games. And natuarally i would sell everything i have if it came down to food or my home. But right now we are exhausting the last bet of our savings, getting on welfair in the mean time i'm looking for work in a dead economy and trying to figure out how to go back to school. So no, I'm not trying to buy games instead of paying bills, if that were true then i would be brain dead. Nevertheless, i can't see how you came to this concluison based upon what i said. Since your in the military i'll give you the benifit of the doubt that you may be suffering from post tramtic stress and therefore lost all capacity of reasoning. Next time try not to read into what i say, HOOUUUHHAAA

He might as well. He's already had insurance fraud suggested to him in this thread, so I can't see a problem with petty theft.

Rent games, Sell the older games you have now, or Buy some older games that you haven't played that you can now get for a bargain.

Also when it comes to new releases I have something I do that saves me a ton. Note this doesn't happen on really big releases like GTA IV or COD 4. It only takes roughly 2 weeks after a game releases for people to start selling them used at a great deal. 2 weeks longer wasn't a problem for me to wait on Dark Sector which I got for $30 on Ebay.

Gamefly definately. It's cheap and you can play as much as you want. They also take game trade ins now so you can off the games you don't play and get free months of renting. That way you could game as much as you want for free.

Did you try downloading some of the demos of the new games? Demos are free and might hold you over until you can get a new game.

By the Way, Sorry about the medical discharge, but it could have been worse. You would have a lot harder time trying to find a job if it were a Dishonorable discharge. What was your MOS, maybe you could find a decent job using the skills you learned it AIT. You may not have been able to graduate, but you did go through the training, and that counts for something.

First of all, the Army says HOOAH! Second, I think you need video games. Playing video games can help take your mind off of your problem for a while so that you can cope. If all you do is sit around thinking about how terrible things are, you may not survive. I believe that most people who commit suicide do so because all they did was think about the bad in their lives. they had nothing to take them away from it all except to end it all. You need to find a way to get some games for free or cheap so that you don't go crazy through all of this. I'm not as hard up as you (sorry) considering I'm still in the military, but if I just sat and thought about everything going wrong in my life, I'd succumb to depression. If you have Xbox live, try the demo thing I mentioned before, and if you don't, see if you can borrow $6 from someone to get it for a month and download as many demos as you possibly can.

I've been in that situation before, that's usually when i download a bunch of demos, even ones i've played before.

Also this is when games like Crackdown and Oblivion are invaluable, making your own fun is something you'll have to learn to do if this situation is going to be consistant. Luckily i have a job now so i'm never in this situation and usually find i have more money than i know what to do with.

First of all, don't knock Team Fortress 2. It's a gem.

When I know a game I really want is going to come out, I start saving ahead of time and making room in my budget a month or so in advance. I always sell of any of my old games I don't want to play any more, this brings in a few extra dollars.

Thankfully I have a job so I pretty much buy as many games as I want :D But I typically have about 6-10 games a year I'm set on and only buy those. So far this year I've got: Command and Conquer 3 and GTA 4. I plan to get: Civilization Revolution, Soul Calibur, Gears of War 2, and Bad Company. I might get Hail to the Chimp, it depends on it's online capabilities (I loved Power Stone on the Dream Cast, and it kinda looks like Power Stone), and Brother in Arms.

Now that I know I defaintely want these 6 games (2 already bought), and 2 maybe's, I mark their release dates on a calender and try to work how much I need to start saving, by when, in order to get that game on release date. I try not to get 2 games within the same month, because it's kinda pushing the bank, and I honestly can only concentrate and have time for 1 game at a time.

Anyway, just thought I'd share.

I buy my games off of Ebay new or used, mostly brand new so I save a ton. If you look for great deals, you can save so much money for each game leaving you with more money to buy more. While other people buy new games at retail price ($60), I'm buying them for $40 or $30. Video games is an expensive hobby. Spend your money wisely.

If you have ten bucks you could run to a store like GameCrazy and buy three games for ten bucks. I Just bought Max Payne, Max Payne 2, and Shenmue 2 for ten bucks. I still have to beat those games.
